With Ash’s adventures in Pokemon Sun and Moon coming to a close, we’re getting a new anime series this month. It has been revealed that the premiere will explore Pikachu’s backstory. I can’t wait for the cuteness and emotions!

The upcoming anime is simply called Pokemon. When I first heard about such a title, I dreaded it being a reboot of the franchise. I’m not the biggest fan of Ash Ketchum, but for me, he and his partner Pikachu ARE the main anime franchise! So, I was glad to know they will be sticking around for the upcoming animated adventure.

The latest trailer is based on the premiere episode. According to what’s shown, we should get ready to see Pikachu as a baby Pichu.

Pikachu’s backstory, of course, will occur before he met Ash all those years ago in the Kanto region.

The new anime is set to air in Japan come November 17, 2019. According to the translation from Crunchyroll, the synopsis for the first episode reads:

In a forest somewhere in Kanto, there once was a lonely Pichu. This Pichu – who was still quite young – had a certain encounter and farewell. This took place shortly before Ash and his partner Pikachu started travelling together. This is the beginning of the anime “Pocket Monster.”

Do you think we’ll get an answer to why Pikachu doesn’t like being in a Pokeball? Maybe he has separation anxiety due to a dark experience when he was a baby? Oh! My heart!

The trailer also features Ash’s new companion. His name is Gou.

I don’t know about you, but I’m kind of digging Gou’s character design. He kind of looks like a girl, and I’m here for it. Let the Ash/Gou shipping commence!

Here’s my reaction to the trailer!

The anime will feature all of the regions showcased in the franchise, including the new Galar region that will debut with Pokemon Sword and Shield.

Fingers crossed Ash gets to meet all of his past companions. I need more Misty in my life.
