“Pokémon Day 2024” Recap: Pokémon Legends ZA, Pokémon Trading Card Pocket and More!
This morning, The Pokémon Company had a premiere video showing off some new content in honor of Pokémon Day 2024.
First up, was Tsunekazu Ishihara, the president and CEO, explaining that the day was created in honor of the day the iconic Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green games were released in Japan. “We’ll keep challenging ourselves to create new ways to enjoy Pokémon, and we hope you continue your adventures with us,” the translator said.
After Ishihara spoke, we got to hear from Takato Utsunomiya, the COO. For Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, they have planned a series of Tera Raid battle events. Trainers will get to fight a mighty Venusaur, Blastiose, and Charizard on certain days – mostly throughout March, but the first one is tomorrow, February 28, at 00:00 UTC.
Utunomiya also shared several updates to a number of their other games.
For Pokémon GO, they are collaborating with Pokémon Horizons: The Series from March 5 through March 11. Pikachu will show up wearing Cap’s hat. There’s a new attack: volt tackle. Meanwhile, Ceruledge, Charcadet, and Armarouge all are making their Pokémon GO debuts. Finally, Liko with Sprigatito and Roy with Fuecoco join the fun in GO Snapshot.
Next up was Pokémon Sleep. Raikou is coming to the game in March 2024. Entei and Suicune will follow.
Pokémon Masters EX was the next product update. Celebrating 4.5 years, starting at 6 UTC on February 28, Geeta and Glimmora will appear. Meanwhile, on March 1 (also starting at 6 UTC), Silver (Champion) and Tyranitar will show up. The Master sync pair Sygna Suit Gladion & Magearna will also appear in the game. Riley & Lucario can join anyone’s team. Additionally, the game is finally getting a photo creator.
In Pokémon Café Remix, there’s new content with puzzles to collect Gimmighoul coins. Starting today and going through March 14, you can choose Sprigatito, Fuecoco, or Quaxly (with new outfits) to add to your staff during this event. Join bingo events and have Koraidon and Miraidon join your staff.
Next up was the action-heavy Pokémon Unite. Miraidon also pops up here, with Falinks and Ceruledge: all joining the game in a special event where you can get their license. Miraidon today, while Falinks is coming in April. No specific date was listed with Ceruledge. Currently, Ceruledge’s arrival is just “coming soon”.
You can use the gift code POKEDAY24 to play as Miraidon today.
The video then moved on to the announcement of the new project Pokémon Trading Card Pocket. As the name implies, you can get to open packs, collect cards, and more in this digital version of the trading card game coming later this year. Utunomiya went on to explain that the game was a collaboration between Creatures Inc. and DNA. Yuji Kitano, the president and CEO of Creatures, Inc. explained that to make the game unique to the digital version, the game will have immersive cards that let you go into the world of the illustration. They also developed new rules based on the existing battle system that has been streamlined for mobile play quick battles.
The video ended with a piece showing off the new urban development plan – Lumiose City for Pokémon Legends Z-A or Pokémon Legends ZA, releasing in 2025 for the Nintendo Switch.
The premise seems to focus on an urban redevelopment program to create a space for humans and Pokémon to peacefully co-exist. Fans are already excited about the tease regarding the Mega Evolution mechanic making a return as well as how the story will link to Pokémon X and Y games (where Lumiose City or Miare City debuted as part of the Kalos Region).
