Fans of the magic-themed murder mystery live-action series Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale can look forward to enjoying a second season soon.

AMC+ and Sundance Now have renewed Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale for a second chapter. The six-episode-long renewal will begin filming this month in Ireland and is looking for a 2025 release. The story will pick up a year after the events that transpired during the first season.

Based on the novel by VV James, Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale is set in a fictional world where witches are (somewhat) accepted by society. All magic users are registered by the government and must follow certain rules as they use their supernatural abilities to help others around them.

Debuting in January 2024, the first season focused on Sarah Fenn (Elaine Cassidy) and her daughter Harper (Hazel Doupe) as the two found themselves ostracized by their tiny community and the ever-growing prejudice turning into something quite sinister due to Harper’s involvement in the apparent murder of a beloved young man.

Even though there were certain narrative plotholes (in my opinion), I still enjoyed watching the seven-episode-long first season. The show explored a bunch of themes including sexual assault, corruption, and misogyny. You can read my coverage here.

Talking more about what to expect from the second chapter, with Sarah and Harper running off to Scotland at the end of the first season, hate crimes against witches continue to rise along with anti-witch legislation. The Moot calls upon Sarah to return to Sanctuary as their eyes and ears or she will have her magic bound. Of course, Sarah can’t let her powers be taken away in such a manner. She has to protect Harper.

However, things take another dramatic turn as yet another murder occurs as Sarah makes are return. She just can’t catch a break. The good news is that DCI Maggie Knight (Stephanie Levi-John) is also called back. So, at least Sarah will have one person on her side.

Also reprising their roles are Valerie O’Connor as Bridget Paterson, Daniel Adegboyega as Pierre Martineau, Elish Liburd as Izzy Paterson, Holly Sturton as Bea Garston, and Marcus Lamb as Robert Alton.

As for the new arrivals, we have Claire Cooper and James O’Donoghue as Angela and Luka Otis, and Clive Standen as Lachlan Frey, a mysterious new arrival in Sanctuary.
