This “Avengers: Doomsday” Theory Could Be Game-Changing!

Today, the final Avengers: Doomsday teaser trailer was released online. Then the Russo Brothers posted to Instagram: “What you’ve been watching for the last four weeks… are not teasers. Or trailers. They are stories. They are clues. Pay attention.”

What does that mean? What are the clues?

The theory below might explain what the overall story could be in Avengers: Doomsday.

SPOILER WARNING! As a fan theory piece about Avengers: Doomsday, this post might contain potential spoilers. Tread with caution!

First, let’s begin with the announcement that Robert Downey Jr. was returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe at San Diego Comic-Con in 2024. He wasn’t reprising his role as Tony Stark aka Iron Man; no, he was returning to play the biggest of the bad guys in Marvel Comics, Victor Von Doom.

During the announcement, after all the screaming died down, RDJ took to the microphone to say one line. “New mask, same task.”

What does this mean?

Tony’s mission after the Battle of New York during the original Avengers movie was to protect Earth from anything and everything. Tony then built Ultron to help control Iron Man suits around the planet, to protect Earth from outside invaders. Also, during Avengers: The Age of Ultron, Wanda forced a vision of the death of the Avengers into Tony’s mind.

In Infinity War, half of all living beings were snapped out of existence, including Tony’s “son” Peter Parker.

And then, in Endgame, in his final act, he protected his family, friends, and the Avengers by sacrificing himself by snapping Thanos and his army away.

Tony has always wanted to protect those he cared about the most, and Earth in the process. So, when RDJ says “New mask, same task”, it is safe to say that Doom is trying to keep something safe?

What is that something? Well, how about existence itself?

In Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, as well as in Marvel Studios: What If…?, the concept of incursions was introduced. That is when two universes overlap or encounter each other, either by force or something affecting their universe in a way that it bleeds into another, causing both to be destroyed.

For MCU fans, none of this is new news, but to understand this particular theory for Avengers: Doomsday, I had to provide some context.

At the end of Fantastic Four: First Steps, Sue sees Doom talking to her son Franklin, who has the Power Cosmic, making him one of the most powerful beings in Marvel.

Then, in the first teaser trailer for the upcoming Avengers movie, we see Steve Rogers holding a child, living a peaceful life on a farm.

The second teaser showed Thor praying to Odin All-Father for the strength to rescue his adopted daughter, Love.

The third teaser gave us a look at Universe 10005, the X-Men Universe. As the Sentinels destroy everything in and around Xavier’s School for Gifted Children, Professor X and Magneto play one last game of chess. This part received a whole lot of attention, but personally, it was Scott Summers pulling off his eyepiece and releasing a huge blast that caught my eyes.

To me, that scene wasn’t someone fighting a losing battle against an unbeatable opponent; it was a scream of anguish, as if Cyclops had something taken from him. Possibly a child?

Scott has two children in the comics, and it gets a little convoluted storywise. But for this theory, we are talking about Nathan Summers, Cable. (And yes, you are envisioning Josh Brolin’s live-action version of Cable.)

Now, the latest teaser shows Shuri’s Black Panther walking in a desert, speaking about how she has lost everyone she cares about. This includes T’Challa, her mother, and Prince T’Challa (the son of King T’Challa), her royal nephew.

And let’s also look at the setting of the Wakandans meeting with Namar and the Fantastic Four in a desert. Has the water around Wakanda dried up? Was it because of the incursion?

If this is all true, then four children were taken, presumably by Doom. Why? To protect them from the end of existence because of possible incursions? Sure, that would make sense. He wants to protect all of the most important beings from all the different universes.

So, here is the fan theory you have been waiting to read about.

Doom is taking Anchor Beings to build Battleworld!

If all the universes were to collide because their Anchor Beings have been taken, then, in the aftermath, he can assemble the remnants of what is left to build Battleworld.

In the comics, Molecule Man exists in every universe. Doom uses him to take power from the Beyonder to salvage fragments of destroyed realities and merge them into one patchworked planet called Battleworld. And Battleworld is where the events of the Secret Wars storyline take place.

Secret Wars issue #5 appeared in Deadpool and Wolverine, while they were inside the Void.

What if… instead of Doom using Molecule Man to force the Beyonder to give him The Power Cosmic to build Battleworld, he is kidnapping heroes’ children from across multiple universes? And because those children are the Achor Beings of their universes (a concept present in the MCU), is it causing a domino effect of incursions across the multiverse and timelines?

There is also the God of Stories “Loki” angle of this theory. Loki can only take care of the different timelines, not create or destroy them. If Doom, by taking the Achor Beings, causes incursions to start, Loki has no means of stopping it other than joining the fight against Doom.

However, there are issues with such a fan theory.

One: Why would Doom want to destroy everything? With RDJ’s proclamation, “New mask, same task,” it makes it feel like he wants to protect all universes. Destroying everything so he can rule over what’s left doesn’t seem to make a ton of sense. And why not help these universes save themselves from being destroyed?

Two: There are some other important children inside the MCU than the ones hinted at or mentioned in the teaser trailers. There’s Kamala Khan, although she is a teenager. Tommy and Billy Maximoff also exist. There can also be other Archor Beings in the MCU who aren’t children.

Three: Most of what we know of the MCU is the 616 universe. Other than the X-Men universe of 10005 and the Earth 838 introduced in Multiverse of Madness, we don’t know of any others. We know the Netflix shows happen within the 616 when Matt Murdock showed up in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

There is also the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. show, which some people say isn’t canon to the 616 universe, but it was directly affected by the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. That makes it part of the 616 universe for me.

But as with most fan theories out there, it’s fun to discuss.

There are rumors that this film and Secret Wars will reset the cinematic universe now that Marvel, once again, has control of the X-Men IP. The thought from many is that after the two Avengers-centric movies, Marvel will move to tell X-Men-centered stories, leading to the Avengers vs X-Men event movie several years from now.

Besides, it won’t be the first time the MCU took elements from multiple comics, tweaked them a bit, and released something new for fans. A lot like Infinity War and Endgame.

The Russo Brothers telling us there are more clues in these teasers than we think makes me wonder what they are hiding in plain sight. For me, it’s the theory about Doom kidnapping children who are Anchor Beings.

No matter what, I am over the moon excited to see Avengers: Doomsday in theaters on December 18th, 2026.
