Wednesday Webcomics: Get Back Into the Stitch Craze!

Just because 626 Day has passed doesn’t mean that we can’t continue to appreciate the adorable and mischievous blue alien known as Stitch. WebToons has recently released free webcomics featuring Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, and 20th Century Fox franchises, and two Stitch webcomics happen to be among them.

Lilo and Stitch was released in cinemas in 2002, but a major resurgence in Stitch’s popularity happened during the movie’s 20th anniversary (2022). Over the years, the Stitch phenomenon had spawned the 2005 sequel to the original movie, a TV series (2003-2006), a Japanese anime series (2008-2015), the 2017 Chinese animated series Stitch & Ai, the 2025 live-action remake, and more. Even before the release of the live-action remake, Stitch merchandise had populated multiple stores and venues. No doubt that the love for the cute blue alien won’t stop anytime soon, especially with the upcoming release of the sequel to the live-action movie. Whether you’re craving more Stitch stories or are new to him, there are actually two webcomics to read for free on WebToons: Stitch & the Samurai and Stitch in Time.

Stitch & the Samurai answers the question of what if Stitch didn’t land in Hawaii but in feudal Japan (Sengoku era) instead. A three-volume manga series (2020) by Hiroto Wada (translated from Japanese by Jason Muell), the story follows a ruthless samurai lord by the name of Meison Yamato who encounters the blue alien. Stitch, mistaken for a “blue raccoon,” yearns to return to space. As Yamato’s heart softens from caring for the blue alien, he makes the effort to have the ship repaired.

What makes this webcomic release of the manga shine is the connection between Stitch and Yamato. Sometime after taking Stitch into his care, Yamato decides to name the alien Suteichi, which means “discarded one.” Yamato’s parents had abandoned him as a child. Stitch having to explore an unfamiliar place reminds Yamato of his childhood. The more he tends to Stitch, trying to make him feel welcome, the more empathetic he becomes toward his people. The webcomic contains humorous moments as well, with Yamato attempting to impress Stitch with gifts and feed him fish.

In Stitch in Time, our blue alien is in Hawaii, but he eventually goes back in time to Ancient Egypt. Dr. Hämsterviel (villain from the TV series) has traveled back and changed the history of Ancient Egypt. The pyramids are now “square-amids” so that the alien Hamster can summon his army of evil Stitch clones. While in Ancient Egypt, Stitch meets Isry, who happens to be the apprentice to the architect Imhotep. Now they have to team up to prevent an alien invasion.

Stitch in Time, written by Adriano Barone and illustrated by Fabrizio Cosentino, has just released its first several episodes since late June, but already there is enough to hook its readers. Stitch is especially endearing in this webcomic, displaying his enthusiasm to learn new things. Stitch in Time is definitely a must-follow for its comedic antics.
