“The Lord of the Rings: Rise to War” Gets New Gameplay Trailer & Dev Video!
NetEase Games has gone ahead and released the first episode of their three-part developer interview series “Devs in the Tavern” for the upcoming Geo-strategic seasonal war game The Lord of the Rings: Rise to War.
Fans of The Lord of the Rings fantasy franchise have a new game to enjoy while they wait for the live-action TV series being developed by Amazon. The upcoming game allows players to select their Faction, create their own ring (yes, you read that right!), recruit iconic characters, and expand their territory by building a powerful army.
In the first episode of ‘Devs in the Tavern’, Nicolas Perrin (Senior Game Designer on LotR: Rise to War) talked about the inspiration behind developing a strategy game set in Tolkien’s rich lore of the LotR franchise. Perrin also shared that while fan-favorite characters are included in this offering, the team also decided to add lesser-known characters to give them time to shine a bit under the spotlight. The team was also excited to recreate and showcase famous locations in-game.
As for the gameplay video, the footage features a number of well-known characters and their abilities. Legolas has been categorized as a ‘Warrior’. Aragon II is ‘Balanced’. Galadriel is a ‘Strategist and has the ability to heal. Gandalf the White is also a ‘Strategist’ and is meant to ‘Control’ the battlefield. From what I can understand, the characters you recruit can be leveled up to boost overall stats and unlock new gameplay mechanics. The Faction you select will impact the characters you can have in your army. The Factions include Isengard, Rohan, Gondor, Mordor, and more.
Coming to the part where you can craft your own ring, players can select the metal it’s made from, the gem, overall design, and inscription. The combination you select will impact your troops. I get that the gameplay is strategy-focused, but I’m very excited about being able to craft my own ring!
The Lord of the Rings: Rise to War will be released on September 23, 2021, for iOS and Android devices. Players can pre-register right now on the App Store, Google Play, Galaxy Store, and the game’s official website.
Take note; Pre-registrants will receive an exclusive in-game gift pack after release, which includes a special portrait of the Hobbit of the Shire, Bilbo Baggins.
