The queer dating app comedy drama titled A Few Feet Away has announced a North American release of December 9, 2025. The upcoming digital and physical releases include an Unrated Director’s Cut DVD.

The December release of A Few Feet Away is by Cinephobia Releasing. The movie serves as the debut feature of writer and director Tadeo Pestaña Caro. According to the marketing material, A Few Feet Away has a narrative that takes a “modern look at gay love, sexual longing, and the search for Mr. Right” or, as the promo material put it, “Mr. Night” Ha!

If you are part of certain online spaces, you will see hookup culture basically igniting a discussion daily with a bunch of queer folks talking about how the ease of hooking up via apps such as Grindr, Sniffies, etc., has diluted the “meaning” behind having an actual relationship based on love, understanding, respect, and the like. There’s also a lot of butting heads over people not only wanting monogamous and open relationships, but trying to make one appear better than the other.

So, yeah, a movie looking at the “double-edged sword” nature of queer hookup culture makes sense. It’s a timely story indeed.

A Few Feet Away will have viewers follow a 20-year-old twink named Santiago who seems to be shaped by the “anonymity” of the virtual world. Santiago finds himself frustrated with the stereotypical experience of gay apps and begins to search for a “real experience” in the Buenos Aires nightlife.

Here’s the trailer!

A Few Feet Away is about how lonely it can feel to live in a world where everything—and everyone—is just a scroll away,” shared Pestaña Caro. “It’s a queer story about trying to figure out who you are at a time when everyone seems to be performing a version of themselves online.”

The movie stars Max Suen, Jazmín Carballo, Esteban Kukuriczka, Débora Nishimoto, and Martín Shanly. It was produced by Malena Suárez, with Tadeo Pestaña Caro and Eugenia Gonzalía serving as Executive Producers.

A Few Feet Away had its world premiere at BFI Flare: London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival and held its North American Premiere at Reeling: The Chicago LGBTQ+ International Film Festival.

Having watched the trailer, I get where the creative team is coming from. Yes, hookup apps are quite problematic, and I understand people wanting a deeper connection. However, having said that, I also feel that folks searching for deeper connections shouldn’t target those who are using said apps for hookups, which, I mean, if we’re being truthful, such apps are basically for.

Like I said, there’s no shortage of heated discussions about this very matter online. But yeah, let’s see what this film has to add.

Will you be checking out A Few Feet Away? What are your thoughts on hookup culture?
