Chilling “Frozen 3” First Look Shared at D23

The much-hyped D23 showcased a whole lot for a bunch of fans. However, I found myself being most excited about the Frozen 3 segment. The first look shared during D23 has me wishing I was watching the actual animated film right now!
The Frozen IP is a money-making juggernaut for the House of Mouse. That’s why it’s no surprise the studio is all in on not only making Frozen 3 but also a Frozen 4. And while I have rolled my eyes at sequels upon sequels for certain properties, I have to say that I’m sold after what was showcased about the third chapter in the Frozen animated film series during D23. I didn’t have high hopes for Disney dragging this particular IP after what transpired during the second movie, but if the rest of the third film is as engrossing as the first look? Well, yeah, I’m so here for a fourth installment, too!
From what I could gather about the upcoming movie, fans will be treated to Anna and Kristoff’s wedding. However, their happily ever after will need to wait because Anna (Kristen Bell), Elsa (Idina Menzel), and Kristoff (Jonathan Groff) will find themselves in yet another adventure.
The first look featured Elsa gazing at the horizon while standing on a dock in Arendelle. A flying snowflake (from what I could tell) transforms into a stone in front of Elsa. Apparantly, it’s a portal-creating stone of some kind. Of course, our leads have to investigate what’s going on.
The cast walks into a completely frozen landscape. Immediately, Anna, Elsa, and Olaf (Josh Gad) get to meet a mysterious woman who calls the siblings the “famous sisters of Arendelle.” The music and the woman’s outfit make it clear to everybody that this new character isn’t exactly a friend. The first look didn’t feature a glimpse at the new character’s face, and no details were shared about the voice actor. And you know what? That’s how you effectively do a first look. I’m so intrigued by what the writers have in store for fans in chapter 3.
The approximately 2:30-minute first look also had a whole bunch of comedy via Olaf. Fortunately, it didn’t feel forced, and Josh Gad’s delivery had me laughing. According to what was shared during D23, Olaf will find himself a love interest, a snowwoman named Samantha.
The fact that a freaking snowman will find romantic love before Elsa? I can’t help but laugh because it feels like a way for Disney to keep stalling before, allegedly, cementing Elsa as a queer character (regardless of her getting a romantic partner or not) as the series continues. Knowing the internet, depending on who the mysterious woman is revealed to be, the Elsa/new character ship is sure to set sail.
Frozen 3 is planned to premiere in theatres come November 24, 2027. Frozen 2 came out all the way back in November of 2019. So, yeah, I think the fandom has waited long enough. And again, I wasn’t before, but that first look has me hyped!
What did you think of the first look for Frozen 3? Are you excited?
