Fan Artist Friday: Paula Sancheztein
Geeky accessories don’t always get categorized as glamorous or sophisticated, but who wouldn’t want small geek touches to highlight your every day? When I first stumbled upon Paula Sancheztein’s work, I was taken with the craftsmanship and quality of the jewelry and other metal pieces. These items are stunning, and I knew that I wanted Paula to be a part of Fan Artist Friday.
Paula and her business partner/husband Miguel have found that great balance between showing off your geeky side and keeping it low-key. Read on to learn about their amazing wearable art.
What mediums do you work in?
Silver and Brass. I also use Black Rhodium to plate brass.
What fandoms do you create art for?
For many of them! Basically, my husband and I (we work together) create the rings, tie clips, and cufflinks that we want to have and that we don’t find anywhere else. We’re in our thirties, so is not that easy to find geek accessories because at our age we can’t show up at work with no matter what on; it should be elegant, chic, and discreet. Basically we work for what I like to call ‘old school fans’; those who love the fandom art of the 80’s but also GoT, Zelda, etc.
What’s been your most exciting moment of your fan artist career?
When a customer sent me a picture of one of my products. A few weeks ago they sent me the pic of a vintage She-Ra doll wearing the silver She-Ra ring on its head. It was very cool and I loved it! Another great moment was when a customer asked me to make a pendant based on the picture that his little son made of the TARDIS. As a huge fan of Doctor Who, that was like a gift for me! I really enjoyed that request. (If you like this idea, the shop can re-create your child’s artwork just like they did with the TARDIS!)
What project are you currently working on?
Very soon we will release a ring based on one of my favorite shows, Vikings. I’ve been inspired by Bjorn’s ring and I created my own version.
What’s your favorite piece of art that you’ve ever created?
Is difficult to just say one, but the one that I most proud of is the tie clip inspired in Finn’s sword from Adventure Time because I mixed different techniques in order to give it the appearance of the original one.
You can find more of Paula’s items at her shop on Etsy, SanSan Atelier.
