The 100 at San Diego Comic-Con 2016

The 100

The 100 was the show I was most excited to cover at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. It was hard not to be, considering the lineup they brought with them, and the cast did not disappoint.

Season 3 of The 100 was a fairly divisive season, and for a lot of people it was make-or-break. I had resolved to give it until the end of the season, and while there is still a long way to go, how season 3 ended and what I’ve heard about season 4 proves that it may be able to get back to the show I know and love.

2016-07-22 10.47.57For starters, I’m really looking forward to Octavia’s storyline. With Lincoln gone and her relationship with Bellamy on the rocks, Octavia will be going down a very dark path in season 4. Marie Avgeropoulos (Octavia) was more than willing to share details in both the press room and the panel, explaining that Octavia basically becomes an assassin next season. She’s found what she’s best at, and it’s killing. Marie also indicated that Octavia would be an assassin for someone (or some group) that we may have already met.

We also got confirmation in the panel that Adina Porter would be back as Indra, and I hope that we get to see more of their relationship. I’ll be very interested to see how the events of the finale shape both of their upcoming character arcs and whether or not their relationship is affected by it.

2016-07-22 10.40.50I’m also excited about what Raven will get up to in season 4. Lindsey Morgan (Raven) was practically giddy to talk about Raven’s “upgrade”; it seems that when ALIE took over Raven’s brain, she left a little something behind. Lindsey referred to her as “Raven 2.0” – she is essentially smarter and stronger emotionally than she ever has been. To paraphrase Lindsey, “She went through hell and survived.” I’m sure I’m not the only person who thinks that Lindsey did a stellar job in season 3, nor am I the only person wishing that in season 4 she gets a bit of a break. Don’t hurt Raven in season 4, please!

2016-07-22 10.34.02While we learned a little bit about character arcs, everyone was frustratingly tight-lipped on overall plot details, though the cast did admit that they don’t know a lot of the specifics themselves. We know that water will be important somehow, and we know that the crisis of season 4 is something that can’t be fought (though Clarke will certainly try) only survived. Eliza Taylor (Clarke) said that she’ll be very interested to see how the characters deal with a problem that really can’t be fixed.

We also know that in addition to Indra, Roan and Luna will be back for season 4, though we don’t yet know what role they will play. And while they haven’t yet started filming season 4, the season 3 sizzle reel they showed at the panel featured a harrowing shot of a massive storm approaching and consuming Polis.
