“Gotham” 3×11 Review: “Beware the Green-Eyed Monster”
This week’s episode of Gotham, titled “Beware the Green-Eyed Monster”, set up a lot of things for when season 3 returns after the mid-season break in January.
The main plot of “Beware the Green-Eyed Monster” had to do with James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) trying to stop Lee from marrying Mario. The whole thing wasn’t surprising. The moment Mario was introduced it was obvious his relationship with Lee wasn’t going to last. He got infected with Alice’s blood and his jealousy turned him into a murderer. It was boring and predictable. So, let’s move onto something far more interesting. Let’s talk about Nygmobblepot!
Even though I still have my issues with the Penguin and Nygma pairing, I can’t help but enjoy seeing those two together onscreen. To start a war, Barbara told Nygma about Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) killing Isabella. Barbara being the one to tell Ed about Penguin’s role doesn’t make sense. Ed should’ve put two-and-two together ages ago. The fact that Isabella was even a character on the show doesn’t make sense. The whole thing is just stupid but shippers continue to stay for the ride because Nygmobblepot has so much potential to be something great! Fingers crossed that Ed is going to double-cross Barbara and is actually looking out for Penguin’s best interest. Also, Cory Michael Smith is amazing as Nygma. You can never be sure what the character is actually thinking.
HE IS TOO SHORT.
HE HAD TO LIFT HIS CHIN IN ORDER TO HUG.
HE GOT TALLER, HE MUST BE ON HIS TOES.

Let’s move on to the other event that transpired in “Beware the Green-Eyed Monster.” Baby Bruce, Kitty Selina, and Alfred finally used the mysterious key to retrieve the object that the Court of Owls fear. The shocking reveal in the episode was the introduction of Selina’s mother. I’m not sure if the new character is going to be Selina’s actual biological mother or someone who took care of her as an orphan. Regardless, I’m looking forward to seeing the show’s take on her.
Before I end my review, I would like to take a few seconds of silence for the members of the Whispers that the Court of Owl’s Talon killed. Your awesome accents, shiny backcombed hair, and perfectly ironed suits will always be remembered. Also, the Whisperers need to train their members better if they want to be taken seriously as a group that can destroy the Court of Owls.
Gotham Season 3 will return in January. While you wait, you can go and rewatch Season 2 on Blu-ray and DVD.
