Boruto: Naruto Next Generations 1×127 Review – “Make-Out Tactics”
This latest episode of the Boruto anime revealed an item that might play a role in the upcoming arc, as far as my opinion is concerned. I liked how ‘Make-Out Tactics’ focused on comedy and gave our heroes some time to relax.
The Urashiki-centric arc was been quite action-heavy and interesting, even though I still think we could have done with the overall arc being (at least) an episode shorter. Anyway, while the previous episode had Himawari bonding with Shukaku, ‘Make-Out Tactics’ didn’t mention the Tailed-Beasts’ emergency at all, until the closing moments.
The entire episode dealt with Boruto wanting to learn more about Jiraiya. Due to Jiraiya being killed during the Naruto storyline, Salad recommended finding a book the old ninja wrote to understand him better. Of course, what our young heroes didn’t know is that Jiraiya’s (basically) wrote adult-themed romance novels and not text that held the secrets to living a successful life (which they assumed he did).
It was fun seeing familiar faces being unable to decide how to act when Boruto and Salad asked them about Jiraiya’s book. I appreciated Choji taking away the copy that Boruto found at the flea market. What I don’t understand is how the bookseller was willing to casually hand the novel over to a bunch of kids. Yes, I get they are very dangerous young ninjas, but they’re still kids.
As for the copies that Boruto found in Naruto’s home office, I wonder if Hinata will scold Naruto for having the entire collection stored in a place their kids could easily get to.
‘Make-Out Tactics’ also served as a crash course about certain characters Naruto grew up with. I don’t know about you, but I think Boruto should have known most of the information (that was shared) already.
I have no idea why Hinata or Naruto hadn’t told him about Jiraiya before. I mean, Jiraiya’s in their freaking family albums! The same goes for Boruto not being familiar with the Legendary Sannin. What was Shino teaching them in the Ninja Academy?
Boruto also bonded a bit with Sasuke during this episode. While Boruto continues to look up to Sasuke, I liked how it was explained their student-teacher relationship was far different from what Naruto shared with Jiraiya. For Naruto, Jiraiya was one of the much-needed father figures in his life. He played a huge role to help mold Naruto into the type of ninja he ended up becoming as an adult.
Hinata also talked to her kids about her relationship with Naruto. We all know that Hinata’s infatuation with Naruto was extremely one-sided in the beginning. It didn’t change until the events that took place during The Last: Naruto the Movie.
With Boruto set to go back into the past, it’ll be interesting to see what he’ll think of Naruto not being in love with Hinata when they were young.
Depending on the moment in time he’ll travel to, I’m also looking forward to seeing what he’ll think of Sasuke’s journey toward the dark side as well as how Neji treated Hinata.
I have no idea how Boruto will travel through time. Will it have to do with the ancient relic that was being shown on TV? Or do you think that ancient relic will be used to seal Urashiki away?
I can’t wait to see what happens next.
Also, where’s Mitsuki? I miss my queer little snake-boy.
