The Bitching Dead Issue #30: Teens and a Gay Army Will Save the World?

The Bitching Dead Issue 30 had Bekah, Tara, and I covering six episodes! We covered Fear the Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 6 ‘Bury Her Next to Jasper’s Leg’ and Episode 7 ‘Damage from the Inside’ as well as TWD: World Beyond Season 1 Episode 7 ‘Truth or Dare’, Episode 8 ‘The Sky is a Graveyard’, Episode 9 ‘The Deepest Cut’, and Episode 10 ‘In This Life’. 

The ratings have continued to fall for both Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond. One would think the ratings would be better considering a lot of us are staying home. But oh well. ‘Bury Her Next to Jasper’s Leg’ got 1.27 million live-views while ‘Damage from the Inside’, the mid-season finale, only got 1.09 million live-views. I was expecting the ratings to be higher for the mid-season finale. Anyway, let’s see how many people decide to tune-in when Fear the Walking Dead Season 6 returns sometime next year.

As for TWD: World Beyond, ‘Truth or Dare’ got 0.78 million live-views and ‘The Sky is a Graveyard’ got 0.63 million live-views. As of writing this, the ratings for the two-hour finale are yet to be released. This series will return for a second season in 2021.

Now, I get that there are still passionate TWD franchise fans out there. However, the ratings don’t lie. It would help said fans to acknowledge that the storytelling needs to be better. The creative team should also reevaluate certain narrative choices.

Yes, we make fun of The Walking Dead franchise during The Bitching Dead. However, we always try to offer constructive criticism.

Fear the Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 6 ‘Bury Her Next to Jasper’s Leg’ highlights:

• The title of this episode! Like, why?
• Were we supposed to care about the women who died during the opening few minutes?
• The way June’s dead patient turned into a zombie in seconds for dramatic purposes made no sense.
• Why is June so interested in having a hospital made?
• June should have killed Virginia!
• The zombie with the razorblade nails was cool.
• I was glad that June and John (kind of) broke up. It’s clear she doesn’t love him the same way he does.
• Are we supposed to care about the “End is the Beginning” people?

Fear the Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 7 ‘Damage from the Inside’ highlights:

• The show really doesn’t know what to do with Victor.
• We continue to like Dakota.
• Of course, there’s a wacko guy living in a hunting lodge and doing crazy stuff.
• Is Madison still alive? Due to the continuing low ratings and the fandom wanting her to return, we won’t be surprised if she’s indeed brought back.
• So, there’s going to use a pregnant Grace against Morgan?

The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 1 Episode 7 ‘Truth or Dare’ highlights:

• These kids don’t know how to play the ‘Truth or Dare’ game?
• Elton continues to be the best character from the lot!
• How much money did Mountain Dew pay to appear during an entire scene?
• The Iris/Percy/Silas love-triangle is annoying.
• As expected, Percy’s uncle died.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 1 Episode 8 ‘The Sky is the Graveyard’ highlights:

• So, Silas did kill his dad (in a way).
• Silas’s mom is the worst!
• For some reason, Silas’s zombified father walked all the way up the stairs after ignoring Silas talking to a concerned neighbor at the door? Okay.
• We were expecting a bit more after Hope told Elton the truth about killing her pregnant mother.
• The Huck reveal was… something.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 1 Episode 9 ‘The Deepest Cut’ highlights:

• We loved the “I’m afraid Elton will freeze to death in his little suit” line by Hope.
• We finally got to see Will (played by actor Jelani Alladin).
• All of us are fans of actor Nicolas Cantu as Elton. Here’s to hoping this show opens new acting opportunities for him.
• Watching Elton get angry is like watching a cute little teddy bear trying to get angry.
• I’m out here shipping Elton and Percy.
• Bekah liked Hope figuring out the code and taking off with Felix’s gun.
• How the heck did the group not hear zombies dragging barbed wire on the road?
• Felix’s blacked-out arm looked weird. We know it’s for hiding Nico Tortorella‘s tattoos, but still.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 1 Episode 10 ‘In This Life’ highlights:

• Kudos to the show for letting both queer characters (the gay couple Felix and Will) survive.
• Of course, Hope’s the asset. She’s named “Hope” after all. And her sister “Iris” is also an asset because she can “see” things as the leader. Sigh!
• Hope and Iris being immune to the zombie virus would have made more sense instead of them being a pair of geniuses that will usher in a new age for human civilization.
• Hope and Iris aren’t even biologically related. But they’re still connected at a very deep level since birth? Make it make sense!
• Silas deciding to surrender instead of running away with Percy and Elton was weird.
• So, according to ‘In This Life’, the savior of humanity is a team of teenagers and the Gay Army (Will and Felix)? Okay. This is supposed to be a YA-inspired show after all.
