Super Bowl LV – “Raya and the Last Dragon” Trailer

Raya and the Last Dragon

Raya and the Last Dragon is an animated Disney film scheduled to be released on March 5th, 2021. A new trailer for the film was dropped during Super Bowl LV.

Raya and the Last Dragon’s plot is described as follows:

Long ago, in the world of Kumandra, humans and dragons lived together in harmony. But when sinister monsters known as the Druun threatened the land, the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity. Now, 500 years later, those same monsters have returned and it’s up to a lone warrior, Raya, and her pet pill bug companion Tuk Tuk, to track down the last dragon in order to finally stop the Druun for good. However, along her journey, she’ll learn that it’ll take more than dragon magic to save the world—it’s going to take trust as well.

The film was originally scheduled to be released in November 2020, but was pushed back due to the ongoing pandemic. It is currently expected to be released on March 5th both in theaters (where they are able to open safely) and on Disney+ with premiere access for $30. This means everyone should be able to enjoy the film, even if your area is on lockdown or you just don’t quite feel safe going out to a theater yet. I certainly won’t be going into a theater that soon, so catch me watching it on Disney+. For those of you who don’t want to pay extra for it, it’ll be available from behind the paywall on June 4th.

This will be the first Disney animated film set in Southeast Asia, though the actual country – Kumandra – is fictionalized. The design and culture of Kumandra is inspired by Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Indonesia, and the Philippines. The film has an all-star cast, including Kelly Marie Tran, Awkwafina, Gemma Chan. Daniel Dae Kim, Sandra Oh, Benedict Wong, Izaac Wang, Thalia Tran, and Alan Tudyk.
