Geekiary News Briefs! Yuri On Ice, Downtown Bookworks Giveaway, Queer Characters in MCU, and More!
Welcome to today’s Geekiary Briefs! We’ll be talking about the Downtown Bookworks giveaway, Yuri On Ice, queer characters in Marvel Cinematic Universe, and more.
Let’s start with Yuri On Ice. The popular anime is still topping Blu-ray charts. While fans are getting an animated film, let’s hope we get news about the second season soon. Furthermore, the colored Yuri On Ice Victor figure has also been introduced by Junichi Suwabe. The 1/8 scale figure can be currently pre-ordered for around $102. It’ll ship sometime in October.

Coming to movies, the US premiere of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is almost here, and Director James Gunn has confirmed a third film. He also added that Gamora will be playing a significant role in the franchise’s third installment, which will take place after “Infinity War.”
James Gunn also shared his opinions about LBGTQ+ characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which weren’t a bit reassuring. “I imagine that there are probably, you know, gay characters in the Marvel universe, you know, we just don’t know who they are yet.” (via CBR)
While Black Panther will be introducing Ayo (Florence Kasumba), a queer woman who shares a romance with fellow Dora Milaje member named Aneka in The World of Wakanda, reports suggest that either Ayo will be straight-washed or her sexuality won’t be mentioned.
Two exciting titles will be making their US theatrical debuts this month and will be available on VOD as well. First up is Another Evil on 5 May, 2017. The film serves as the writing-directing debut of Carson Mell. It stars Steve Zissis and Mark Proksch. Check out the trailer!
The second film is The Survivalist which will be shown in theaters and made available on VOD on 19 May, 2017. It’s written and directed by Stephen Fingleton. The story is set in a dire world with limited resources. Here’s the trailer!
Spider-Man: Homecoming will be released in a few months, and Funko is delivering the goods. There’s an entire series of retailer-specific collectibles to get your hands on.
If you have the cash, a Japanese jeweler happens to be selling a solid 24-karat gold Darth Vader mask for 154 million yen or $1.4 million USD. (via IGN)
