Dropout and WEBTOON Team Up to Bring Dimension 20 to Webcomics

It’s Wednesday, and we’re talking about webcomics, but it’s a little different this time. I’m always hesitant to recommend something that I haven’t read yet, but in this case I think it’s a pretty safe bet. Especially if you’re a fan of Dropout’s breakout series Dimension 20.
Hey, even if you’re a fan of Dungeons & Dragons in general, or similar role-playing games, you may be excited to hear this news. It was announced today that Dropout will be partnering with WEBTOON to debut a new webcomic based on the streaming sensation. Fantasy High will launch in Spring 2025.
Dimension 20 is helmed by actor, comedian, Tumblr darling, and charismatic Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan. Over the years, the show has built up a very passionate fanbase (some of whom write for this blog) as it showcases a unique blend of “high fantasy, hilarious live performances, and an atmosphere inspired by ’80s teen classics”. They recently had a sold-out show at New York City’s iconic Madison Square Garden. Even people who don’t subscribe to Dropout are aware of Dimension 20.
Current fans will recognize the title of the upcoming webcomic, as Fantasy High is a recurring campaign on the show. It was the first campaign on the series, back in 2018, and they have returned to it twice over the years (so far). The webcomic will be 61 episodes, and is said to capture “the humor, drama, and heart that have made the webseries a cult phenomenon”.
Fantasy High follows a group of misfit teens as they navigate the high-stakes drama of high school and the perils of a magical world. When students at their school mysteriously go missing, the ragtag group bands together to uncover a sinister plot, embarking on an unforgettable adventure filled with intrigue, humor, and heartfelt moments.
“Just like the most compelling comic storytelling, tabletop role-playing games offer incredibly rich worlds, dynamic characters, and boundless creativity,” said David S. Lee, Head of US at WEBTOON Entertainment. “We’re thrilled to bring Dimension 20’s magic, humor, and adventure to WEBTOON, delivering immersive world-building and a visual experience fans will love.”
A webcomic like this is a great way to introduce the series to a global audience and bring in new fans. For example, myself. I don’t subscribe to Dropout (I have too many streaming subscriptions as it is), but I’m incredibly familiar with Dimension 20 as a series. The gifsets are all over Tumblr. I’m actually really excited about Fantasy High because it sounds awesome and exactly the kind of story I would like.
Sound off in the comments! Who’s excited by this news? What other D20 campaigns do you wish they would bring to webcomics?
