Let’s Break Down the Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Trailer Number 1!

Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom trailer poster

Universal Pictures has finally released the first trailer for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. And while there are some fun scenes in there as well as a lot of dinosaurs, the premise for the sequel still makes no sense to me.

Jurassic World ended up being a huge box office hit. The acting wasn’t stellar but I guess people wanted a nostalgic kick and to see a functioning dinosaur-themed park. So, it made sense for the studio to make a sequel. However, after watching the first trailer for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, I have a feeling that the title might be indicating the fall of the current franchise itself.

Don’t get me wrong. I still enjoyed parts of the trailer. But the entire premise about going back to the island to save the dinosaurs from a volcanic explosion makes no sense to me. I hope they go full-on campy with the sequel because even trying to be a bit serious about the plot will probably backfire.

Now, let’s get to the breakdown. Both Claire Dearing (the unsung heroine of Jurassic World) and Owen Grady are returning. Even though I’m not a fan of the pairing, I’m kind of disappointed that those two aren’t together. I guess the franchise wanted there to still be a ‘will-they-or-won’t-they’ thing between the two, but it just sounds boring to me. Kingsman: The Golden Circle showed awesome relationship progression for the main lead. So, it can be done.

Here’s my breakdown of the trailer!

Claire has definitely changed, especially her look. She also seems to care a lot more about dinosaurs now and has created a Dinosaur Protection Group. This made me remember talks about Jurassic Park IV in which Laura Dern’s Ellie Sattler, according to rumors, goes back to protect dinosaurs for some reason. Now, that’s a film I would’ve loved to watch.

Coming back to the Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom trailer, Owen still comes across as a salty ex-boyfriend and continues being inappropriate.

Trailer breakdown thoughts

  • Why was the theme part made on an island with an active volcano? Even if the volcano was being used as a power source, it still comes across as a very risky move.
  • I’m glad to have Dr. Ian Malcolm back but his line about “These creatures were here before us, and if we’re not careful, they’re going to be here after,” makes no sense. If they have a high chance of surviving, why does Claire and her Dinosaur Protection Group need to go rescue them?
  • Are the dinosaurs going to be transported to Isla Sorna?
  • How good is Blue’s memory?
  • I think most of the movie will take place on a dinosaur-filled ship. Jurassic World: The Cruise, anyone?

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has a June 22, 2018, US release date.

What did you think of the trailer? Are you looking forward to watching Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom? Is Justice Smith’s character going to be related to Ian Malcolm? Maybe he’s Kelly Malcolm’s son? Feel free to share your thoughts with us.
