Ellen Page Explains Why She Called Out Chris Pratt Being From An Anti-Queer Church
Ellen Page is someone you can count on to be very vocal about what she believes in. She called out actor Chris Pratt for ignoring the fact his church is extremely anti-LGBTQIA+. Of course, some people told Page she should mind her own business. However, Page has tweeted an explanation. We don’t deserve such a wonderful human being!
For those who don’t know, Chris Pratt did an interview with Stephen Colbert while promoting The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part and also ended up talking about the church he is a part of. Ellen Page tweeted how Pratt attends the Hillsong Church which is “infamously” anti-LGBTQIA+. Even actor Dylan O’Brien shared his opinion about what Page did.
Certain people did come to Pratt’s defense and stated he should be allowed to do whatever he wants in his personal life and how his belief system shouldn’t be held against him. Some of them also talked about why Pratt shouldn’t be blamed for what the Hillsong Chruch does.
I covered it in the latest Geekiary News Briefs.
Page, not having time for any trolls as well as insensitive and homophobic people, has tweeted an explanation.
If you still have a problem with what she shared and you still refuse to see Pratt’s involvement (even indirectly) with what the Hillsong Chruch does, well, frankly, I can’t help you.
As Page said, there aren’t two sides to this conversation. I’m tired of the ‘two-sides’ argument certain people try to start because they refuse to accept certain prejudices (or, in this case, homophobia) they might have.
As for the Hillsong Church, back in 2015, Hillsong’s Brian Huston released a statement regarding the church’s stance on LGBTQ+ lifestyles. “Hillsong Church welcomes ALL people but does not affirm all lifestyles,” read the statement. “Put clearly, we do not affirm a gay lifestyle and because of this, we do not knowingly have actively gay people in positions of leadership, either paid or unpaid. I recognise this one statement alone is upsetting to people on both sides of this discussion, which points to the complexity of the issue for churches all over the world.”
I’m glad to see Ellen Page continuing to talk about such issues. She can next be seen in Umbrella Academy which will be released on Netflix on February 15, 2019.
Here’s to her being part of more awesome projects as well as raising her voice!
