Boruto: Naruto Next Generations 1×40 Review: Team 7 – The First Mission
Episode 40 of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations showed Team 7 getting their first mission as Genin, and of course, a low-ranking mission ended up becoming dangerous for our little heroes.
‘Team 7 – The First Mission’ opened with an explanation about how mission rankings worked. S-Rank missions are the most dangerous with D-Rank missions being the easiest. Even though Boruto wanted the toughest work assignment, as a Genin he had to start with a D-Rank mission. Our young hero wasn’t pleased with required protocol, but he had to deal with it.
I liked the conversation Boruto had with Hinata about her first mission. Naruto and his classmates grew up in a very different time, and due to wars going on, even a D-Rank mission was dangerous back then. Boruto and his classmates have it much easier than their parents. That’s why I’m still waiting for an antagonist to show up that can pose a threat to ninjas like Naruto, Sasuke, and even Sakura in the current series. Things are heating up in the Boruto manga, but I still need to wait and see what happens down the line.
Team 7’s first mission had them travel to a village in conflict with another nearby village. At first, the conflict seemed to be due to a scarcity of food. However, as the episode continued, Team 7 realized they were dealing with something more serious.
Turns out that someone wants the deed to a bridge that Lady Kiri owns. Her father was killed three months ago, and the little girl had to take his place. I have a feeling that Boruto will be learning something from Lady Kiri because of Naruto’s position as Hokage and his duty to protect the village.
While I did enjoy the episode, Boruto not being able to fight properly against a villain didn’t feel right to me. Boruto, Salad, and Mitsuki showed impressive skills during the ‘Hidden Mist’ arc. So, seeing them being powered-down in this episode felt weird. Maybe the new enemy is stronger? We’ll have to wait and see.
