“Joker 2: Folie à Deux” Teaser Trailer Released and I Don’t Trust Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn!

The teaser trailer for the highly-anticipated Joker 2: Folie à Deux has been released and I have to say that while I’m looking forward to seeing Lady Gaga’s portrayal of the iconic Harley Quinn, I can’t help but mistrust her intentions.

With the first solo Joker movie from 2019 making more than $1 billion at the global box office and featuring a sociopolitical narrative that was welcomed by critics and audiences alike, people were wondering how director and co-writer Todd Phillips would follow it up. And that’s when Phillips announced he’ll be bringing in Lady Gaga to add a “romantic” angle to Arthur Fleck’s continuing story.

The newly released teaser trailer shows a whole lot (more than I was expecting), including Harley Quinn meeting Arthur at Arkham Asylum and then reaching out to begin their “romantic” relationship. The promotional material makes it obvious that Arthur, and likely Harley, will be part of scenes where they travel in and out of a “shared delusion” and hence, connect with the movie title.

Even though the teaser trailer makes it seem that Harley’s an inmate who just happens to strike a friendship with Arthur, the fandom already has a fan theory about Harley manipulating the entire thing. According to said theory, which I currently agree with, Harley’s probably a professional psychiatrist who isn’t taken seriously in her field and decides to gain fame for herself by figuring out the Joker. However, similar to the comic book lore, things get out of hand.

Harley’s “professional” intentions will twist into something more ego-driven where she might end up wanting to take the Joker’s place due to the support he keeps getting from society. 

Here’s the beautifully directed teaser trailer! That final shot with the lipstick on the mirror is so good. However I do feel the lipstick is probably CG due to how perfectly the shot is framed.

Along with Phoenix and Lady Gaga, the cast also includes Zazie Beetz as Sophie Dumond (reprising her role from the first movie), Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, and more.

The Joker 2 will be released in the USA on October 4, 2024. The movie has a reported production budget of $200 million
