A Magic Lapis Ride (In Too Deep Week 2 Recap)

In Too Deep continued with an incredible and long-awaited Lapis Lazuli backstory episode, “Same Old World.”

Here’s what’s on our minds:

  • The Gem with the rainbow dreadlocks has almost universally been speculated to be the fan-named Bismuth living in Lion’s mane. What side was she on? Why is a simple silhouette so attractive? Is that Woolie the Gem? Other fan names that have surfaced include: Tetris Mom, Gummy Worm Mom, and Rainbow Ronaldo. bismuth
  • It was so good to see Lapis smiles again, however tiny they were. Lappiness lives!
  • Fans are anxious about Cartoon Network France airing the upcoming two episodes of In Too Deep and one episode from the Summer of Steven. More information here via reddit, or you can look at CN France’s scheduling (WARNING: contains spoiler-ific synopses; even the French title for “Hit the Diamond” is a MAJOR spoiler!)
  • The jokes about Jersey were apparently Matt Burnett’s doing.
  • That flash at the end of Lapis’s flashback, besides containing supremely Diamond-esque tones, seems a likely candidate for whatever caused the Corruption for Gems on Earth. Notably, the colors involved were blue, yellow, and white.corruption
  • The Homeworld Gems interrogating Lapis were all shades of pink. Is this a hint to the ever-looming Pink Diamond mystery? Why were all the fleeing Gems blue?
  • Lapis’s and Peridot’s hairstyles seemed extra big. This is due to storyboarders’ unique styles, in this case, Lamar Abrams and Katie Mitroff. I thought all of “Same Old World” was gorgeous.
  • Soundtrack geniuses aivi & surasshu made single versions for the Malachite and Alexandrite fight. You can find them on soundcloud: Part 1, Part 2.
  • Looks like Lapis got her wacky roommate after all!

Next week is “Barn Mates,” boarded by Lauren Zuke and Hilary Florido! It will air (in the US) on Thursday, May 26 at 7PM EST.
