Rogue One Merchandise Packaging Revealed Far in Advance of Force Friday

Rogue One merchandise

Yesterday, the official Star Wars Instagram account posted the first picture of some Rogue One merchandise packaging, and I have to agree with them – it certainly looks powerful!

Obviously we probably won’t see much (if any) Rogue One merchandise before Force Friday in September, but I’m excited that they released the trailer slightly earlier than the rumors foretold and have now given us this first look as well. Do we really have to wait until September? Probably.

Last year’s Force Friday was apparently a huge thing; this writer missed out on it entirely due to being at Dragon Con, though I did thankfully catch some of the new items in stores the next week, including one of the new novels, Lost Stars by Claudia Gray. As for September 30, 2016? I’m likely to be found waiting in line somewhere or another at midnight to truly experience Force Friday this time around. It’s likely that this year’s Force Friday will feature mostly Rogue One merchandise, there’s always a chance that Disney/Lucasfilms will throw in some surprises…but I have to say that I’ve mostly got my fingers crossed for some Mon Mothma items!

In fact, when LEGO announced some of their upcoming Star Wars items at the Nuremberg Toy Fair this past January, Screen Rant pointed out that the picture attached to the LEGO Rogue One merchandise looked very much like Boba Fett’s ship, the Slave I. Obviously this led to some speculation as to whether or not Boba Fett would appear in Rogue One – it’s entirely possible, though considering he’s getting his own movie in 2020, my guess is that any Rogue One scenes he appears in will be brief ones. Or at least I hope so, because I really love that the Rogue One trailer focused on the new character Jyn Erso, while also heavily featuring Mon Mothma (again, YAY!).

What do you think of the packaging? I know that I’m wondering whether the black stormtrooper armor is a mostly new thing, or if they’re pulling from 90s PC game Star Wars: Dark Forces. Whether they are or not, I’m hoping it’s at least an homage to the Dark Troopers in that game. As for Force Friday, obviously I’m counting down the days – do you have plans to get out and shop as soon as the day begins? Let us know in the comments!
