Bekah, Tara, and I are back with The Bitching Dead issue 56 where we go over The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 2 – The Book of Carol.

Even though the original The Walking Dead series has concluded, along with the much-anticipated reunion between Rick and Michonne, the franchise still stumbles on with two spin-offs. We have The Walking Dead: Dead City coming back for a sophomore season sometime next year and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon recently aired the season two finale. And yes, the second season of TWD: Daryl Dixon is indeed called The Book of Carol.

As far as the ratings are concerned, the second outing of TWD: DD – TBoC (I know!) managed to average approximately 0.5 million live viewers. It’s slightly down from the first season’s average of 0.6 million live viewers, but apparently it’s good enough for the network because the show has been greenlit for a third season that will air sometime in 2025.

A teaser for the upcoming third season of TWD: DD – TBoC showed Daryl and Carol somehow managing to end up in Spain after deciding to leave France via a tunnel to the United Kingdom.

I don’t know how geography works in The Walking Dead franchise.

Anyway, here’s our The Bitching Dead issue 56 webcast!

Here are some of the highlights in no particular order:

  • We all agreed that the TWD: Daryl Dixon is one of the better spin-offs. But then again, the bar is low.
  • Why are Daryl and Carol even going to Spain?
  • Even though it was in-character for Carol to use Sophia’s name to manipulate Ash into helping her get to France, what we didn’t like was the writing team suddenly making Carol begin to grieve losing Sophia after years of her not mentioning her dead daughter.
  • Also, a smart character like Carol not having a backup plan when Ash did find out about her lie made no sense. She could have easily said couldn’t find Sophia in France. Ash even gave her an out when he questioned if Sophia was still alive. Sigh!
  • Daryl and Carol’s reunion was handled quite well. Seeing Daryl breaking down in tears gave us the feels.
  • The short storyline with the two women who tried to kill Carol and keep Ash as a donor in Greenland was unnecessary.
  • Sylvie’s death was unnecessary. And the show fridged Isabelle. I could kind of see Isabelle being written out of the show with Carol nearing Daryl and the teaser and other promo material for season 3 not mentioning her. However, I wasn’t expecting her to go out the way she did.
  • Tara’s suggestion that a new spin-off focusing on Laurent’s time in the Commonwealth and his possible budding romance with Judith had me shooketh. I don’t want it!
  • The way certain characters were transporting and displaying the freaking Mona Lisa without doing anything to protect it from the environment.
  • Didi and Theo’s zombie neighborhood led to a joke of introducing Belle from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast in such a scene.

As for our recommendations, I would like anyone who hasn’t seen AMC’s Interview with the Vampire yet to fix such a mistake ASAP!

Tara suggested checking out HBO’s True Blood (2008-2014). The show is sexy and camp as heck!

Bekah brought up the comedy A Virtuous Business on Netflix.

So, yeah. I don’t think we will be back until it’s time for us to talk about The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2 sometime in 2025. Until then, let us know what you thought of TWD: Daryl Dixon Season 2 – The Book of Carol.

Happy holidays!
