The trailer for the upcoming Merry Little Batman animated movie has been released and as far as my opinion goes, I’m into it! The animated project will debut on Prime Video come December 8, 2023.

As the name states, Merry Little Batman is a festive offering set during Christmas. The story involves Bruce Wayne/Batman being called away from Gotham City to attend to matters concerning the Justice League and while he’s out, the villains of Gotham decide to take over the city. Due to wanting to be a hero like his father, Bruce’s son Damian Wayne feels the need to take it upon himself to stop the likes of the Joker, Bane, the Riddler, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, and more during Bruce’s absence.

The animation style has got the Batman fandom talking on social media. Frankly, I’m okay with the movie’s animation choices. This is clearly a film targeting very young kids. Also, the style made me remember Cartoon Network’s Chowder (a show that I enjoyed watching). And besides, I’m all for creative teams doing something new with the Batman IP. The visual style goes well with the overall comedic tone of the film.

Also, I really like how Damian’s skin tone is a bit darker, connecting to his heritage from the comic books (something that certain other portrayals of said character tend to ignore about him).

Here’s the trailer!

Seeing Bruce being such an involved father isn’t something we get a lot of. So, yay, to the creative team showcasing that particular side of the Caped Crusader in a humorous manner. Also, I wonder if other members of the BatFamily will appear.

Merry Little Batman has been directed by Mike Roth (Regular Show) with the writers being Morgan Evans (Teen Titans Go!) and Jase Ricci.

Batman/Bruce has been voiced by Luke Wilson with Yonas Kibreab voicing Damian. James Cromwell is Alfred and David Hornsby is the Joker.
