At Last We Have a Trailer for Undrafted
One month before the movie is set to hit theaters, we finally have a trailer for Undrafted!
From the official YouTube description:
When twelve ragtag teammates set out to play what should be a meaningless summer intramural baseball game, it ends up becoming the most important game of their lives.
Aaron Tveit stars as John, the best player on his intramural baseball team. Everyone thinks he should have been drafted into the MLB, but he wasn’t, and now he has to deal with an uncertain future. The character descriptions of his teammates sound like just what you would expect for a film about a misfit intramural baseball team. Chace Crawford stars as Arthur, a “hot dog power hitter”. Tyler Hoechlin is Dells, the pitcher who used to be a reliver and now starts. Joe Mazzello is “outfielder with anger management issues” Pat. And Jim Belushi is Jim. Because of course he is.
Joe Mazzello directed in addition to penning the script, and Chace Crawford and Tony Romo were the executive producers. Undrafted is semi-autobiographical and based on the experiences of Joe’s brother, a collegiate baseball star who was skipped over in the draft.
This is obviously going to be a very – how can I put this delicately – testosterone-heavy film, but then I was worried about the same thing with Everybody Wants Some!! and that ended up being fantastic. Also, it should be no secret that I am a massive fan of Tyler Hoechlin, and so I’m excited to see him in yet another movie this year.
It helps, having a trailer, because now we know what the tone of the film is going to be. Before all we had to go on was the basic plot about John not being chosen for the draft, and to be honest I was expecting a little more drama. The trailer, however, clearly shows that this will be a comedy – or at least largely comedic. I’m sure there will be heartfelt moments throughout as John and his teammates struggle with their futures, but for the most part it looks like I’m going to see this movie and laugh my way through it. (I hope.)
Undrafted is scheduled for theatrical release July 15.
