Developer Tainted Pact and publisher Assemble Entertainment will be releasing the horror adventure side-scrolling video game Terror at Oakheart come February 27, 2024. Available on PC via Steam, the upcoming title has been inspired by the slasher films of the ’80s and ’90s.

The premise of Terror at Oakheart will transport players to the titular town of Oakheart. Of course, said town is dangerous. Players will need to do what they can to survive the horrifying psychotic killer named Teddy who has been terrorizing the community. The storyline also includes finding clues to unmask the truth behind Teddy and what’s really happening in town.

You will be able to play as a bunch of characters. There’s Eric, Ethan, Rose, Tyler, and others. The overall vibe has a Lovecraftian influence to it, with Teddy being under the sway of a mysterious creature. Frankly, I don’t necessarily link that to the iconic slasher films I grew up watching, but I’ll take it, especially because I do like the visuals and gameplay elements showcased in the promotional material.

The locations include the police station, camping grounds, and a ranger station, among others. The story will also take you right into Teddy’s house.

As for the gameplay, if I understood it correctly, playing as a particular character doesn’t mean they will get to survive. I think the storyline will need to kill off certain characters as you move closer to solving the main mystery. So, don’t get too attached to a particular cast member. They might not make it.

Here’s the trailer!

I do like the pixel artstyle. The limited light, weapons, and movement options are sure to amp up the tension. It looks like you might be able to hide from Teddy depending on the location you’re in. Also, I hope the dog survives.

If interested, you can go ahead and Wishlist the game right now on Steam before the planned February 27, 2024, release. Take note; the first chapter as well as the prologue can be played for free as part of the game’s currently available demo.

I’m not sure how many chapters this game will have.

As for Tainted Pack, it’s a solo game dev from California “with an unwavering passion for horror movies and games.” The dev is behind several indie horror offerings including Suffer the Night, Meat Saw, and Weeping Falls Massacre.

Assemble Entertainment can be followed on Twitter/X (@AssembleTeam), Instagram, Facebook, Steam, and the official Discord Server.
