If you are looking for a strategy game that’s all about exploration and the vibes, then Growth might be for you. Developed by VoodooDuck, Growth will be released on Steam come October 16, 2023.

The upcoming video game Growth has been described as a soft-strategy offering that uses a hex grid and a bunch of vibrant colors. The main goal is for players to move around the hex grid as they unlock new areas and populate said areas with a variety of animals and plant life. Of course, there are certain obstacles that need to be overcome. However, as this game is a soft strategy title, the obstacles have been designed to be non-anxiety-inducing. It’s all about remaining calm and having fun.

As you move along the map, you will be able to convert barren land into densely packed forests and meadows full of wildlife. The game is said to have a lot of replayability as you make your way across randomly generated maps.

Talking a bit more about the game’s mechanics, there are 8 different animals that will help you along the way. The animals include deer, bees, and boars. Each animal comes with unique abilities and certain limitations. For example, while deer and boars can’t cross rivers, bees can.

Various points of interest on the map will grant you additional animals. You might even get to unlock a special reward.

There are 9 different tile types. The color of the tiles, more or less, corresponds to the area you will unlock. For example, green tiles indicate forests. Depending on how you play the game, as mentioned above, you will be able to transform barren land into forests.

From what I can tell, the end goal is to make the map as lively as possible.

The entire game is played via point-and-click. The resource bar is easy to read and so is getting more animals to continue exploring.

Published by Assemble Entertainment, you can go ahead and add Growth to your Wishlist via Steam. There’s also a free demo if you want to check that out.
