Our First Look at Supergirl AND Superman!
Words cannot adequately express how excited I am for Tyler Hoechlin’s appearance as Superman on Supergirl. There are no words in the English language, so have some gibberish: A;DMFAKMDF,ADFMKJFDA;,MDF,AD;F.
In case you missed it, though the news broke last month, Tyler was officially introduced as Superman last weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, when he joined the rest of the cast on stage in Ballroom 20 at their annual panel. Most of the cast he had only known a few days, but the camaraderie between them was evident, and I am unbelievably proud of him. For those of you fortunate enough to have met Tyler in person, he basically is Superman, the same way that Chris Evans just is Captain America.
Filming just started Monday, and today we were finally graced by the first promotional image for season 2, featuring Melissa Benoist as Supergirl and our first look at Tyler in the suit! Needless to say, there was a lot of swooning on my Twitter timeline.
Supergirl isn’t the only new hero coming to The CW this fall. @TylerL_Hoechlin is joining her as Superman! pic.twitter.com/NgLKg3wjiz

Remember, this is still very much Kara’s story. Superman’s arc so far is contained in the first two episodes, though of course more may be added later. Supergirl is the focus of the show, and from what Executive Producer Sarah Schechter told us at Comic-Con, they have absolutely no intention of taking away from that. So anyone who was worried about that, don’t be!
As for what I think… Well, I’m still disappointed that Tyler had to shave. I saw him at Comic-Con, of course, so I knew that he had. But I mean, a bearded Superman is actually canon in the New 52 for DC Comics, and I do love Tyler’s constant scruff. And where is the Superman curl? We know he can do it – he did it at the SDCC panel! Let’s hope they have it in the show, even if it’s only a brief nod to the traditional way Superman wears his hair. I like that his logo is slightly different than hers and that his suit is more reminiscent of the costume from Man of Steel rather than the typical red briefs over blue tights. You can also tell that this photo is Photoshopped (his face looks weird for such a good-looking guy)… But I’m not going to lie, my heart skipped a beat when I saw this photo pop up on Twitter.
I’m very interested to see not only Tyler’s take on such a classic hero but also how Supergirl will integrate him into the universe and what reasons he may have for appearing now as opposed to later. I can’t wait to see how his appearance fits with the tone and flow of the show and how the other characters react to him. I am also very eager to see how this appearance affects Kara and her decisions going forward. So much to look forward to when Supergirl returns in October!
What do you guys think?

Hoechlin without his beard is very weird to me but he does look good in that suit though.
