Fun Bonus Content and All The Nygmobblepot Hints in “Gotham: The Complete Season 2” Blu-ray/DVD
Remember when I wrote about Gotham Season 2 coming to Blu-ray and DVD and how excited I was about the bonus content? Well, I finally got to watch it and enjoy all the scenes that hinted at Nygmobblepot becoming a reality in Season 3.
When it comes to DVD and Blu-ray releases of TV shows, I’m more interested in the extra content that is included in them. Sure, you can binge watch the whole season but having bonus content helps sweeten the experience. That’s why I was looking forward to watching the Blu-ray/DVD release of Gotham Season 2. I want all that extra content!
If you’ve been reading my reviews of Gotham you will know that I found the second season to be an improvement over the first even though the plot dragged in a few episodes. I immensely enjoyed the introduction of Jerome. Gotham Season 2 was all about the villains and I loved it.
Coming to the extra content included in the Blu-ray/DVD release, here’s a complete breakdown along with my opinions:
Disc 1:
- Aftermath (5 min.): A collection of short promo clips for Oswald, Nygma, Barbara, and Gordon.
- Father’s Office (½ min.): A promo focusing on the hidden room that Bruce and Alfred end up finding. I never cared for that room so I was glad the promo wasn’t even a minute long.
- A Look Back (3 min.): Comments from Donal Logue, Robin Lord Taylor, and Sean Pertwee talking about their character origins on the show. Robin Lord Taylor is the best! He’s so quirky an adorable!
- Maniax Jerome (½ min.): A short promo about Jerome. I liked him as a character even though he might not be the real Joker.
- Strike Force (2 min.): A short featurette on Nathaniel Barnes. It made me smile considering what his character’s been up to in Season 3.
- He Who Laughs Last (2 min.): A short featurette about Jerome.
Disc 2:
- New Day, Dark Nights (2 min.): A short promo covering Jim making a deal with Penguin. I hope these two get more scenes together as Season 3 continues.
- A Look Ahead (3 min.): Short character pieces about Bruce & Alfred, Oswald, Nygma, and Gordon.
Disc 3:
- The King (2 min.): Another short promo focusing on Penguin. He’s one of my favorite characters from the show so no complaints here.
- Gotham: 2015 Comic-Con Panel (16 min.): Awesome highlights from the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con panel that occurred before the premiere of Season 2. The panel consisted of Executive Producers Bruno Heller, Danny Cannon, and John Stephens along with cast members Ben McKenzie, Donal Logue, Morena Baccarin, Robin Lord Taylor (awesomeness again!), Sean Pertwee, Erin Richards, Camren Bicondova, David Mazouz, and Cory Michael Smith, plus Geoff Johns who is DC Comics’ Chief Creative Officer. It is a fun panel to watch and such content is one of the reasons I enjoy bonus features that come with Blu-ray/DVD releases.
Disc 4:
- Gotham by Noir Light (25 ½ min.): Another amazing bonus feature that focus on Gotham and film noir. The city of Gotham in this series is a character in itself and that’s why I enjoyed getting to know more about how it was created for the current TV adaptation.
- Alfred: Batman’s Greatest Ally (20 min.): This extra content focuses on Alfred Pennyworth in the show and his comic book origins.
- Cold Hearted: The Tale of Victor Fries (10 min.): This featurette takes a look at Mr. Freeze. His love for his wife served as mini-arc in Season 2 which I greatly enjoyed.
All of the extra content makes owning this Blu-ray/DVD release worthwhile. It has also made me excited for the inevitable Blu-ray/DVD release of Season 3. While I do think that Nygmobblepot could’ve been handled a lot better, regardless of how it ends I hope we get a bonus featurette looking back at Penguin and Nygma’s relationship on the show.
Gotham: The Complete Second Season consists of 6 discs. It includes all 22 episodes along with bonus content. The total runtime is 960 minutes. It was released on 16th August 2016 before the September premiere of Season 3. The Blu-ray including Digital HD list price is $59.97 SRP. The list price for the DVD is $49.99 SRP. You can find them for a lot cheaper though.
If you’re someone who is a fan of Gotham then I recommend buying the Season 2 Blu-ray/DVD. Not only will you enjoy all of the extra content, you can also give the discs to your friend if you want them to binge watch the show and possibly become a fan as well. It can also serve as a good gift if you happen to know someone who likes Gotham.
