“Putting On” Season 2 Review – An Enjoyable Return to On Mekahel’s Life
The queer reality series Putting On is back for season two on Revry and I enjoyed binge-watching the entire thing. You have to give props to On Mekahel, he’s full of energy and knows what he wants.
I was provided with a free screener of Putting On Season 2 for review. The opinions I have shared are my own.
One of the things that made me smile was the fact Putting On Season 2 was longer than the first season. The second outing consisted of six episodes with each episode being approximately 20 minutes long. From what I remember, the first season (which came out in 2018) had a handful of episodes with each being less than 10 minutes. So, that’s a clear indicator of the series’ success and I can’t wait for it to come back for season three.
While we should continue to demand well-written queer representation in media, it’s also important to showcase actual queer people living successfully. So, kudos to Revry for offering such content for everyone to enjoy.
Putting On season 2 covered many areas of Mekahel’s personal and professional lives. On the business side of things, you will get to see Mekahel expanding his underwear business as well as his brand, which includes a fragrance and cosmetic line. I appreciated the conversations he had with his team and friends concerning how to ensure his brand caters to a wider audience.
When managing an underwear line, of course, falling into a mold that focuses on stereotypical “perfect” bodies is easy (and a safer choice). Seeing Mekahel realize the importance of embracing diversity made for some interesting moments. Trying to sell the (problematic) Victoria’s Secret fantasy just won’t cut it anymore.
I also enjoyed the conversations Mekahel had when planning his cosmetic line. Rihanna changed the entire beauty industry through the impressively inclusive Fenty Beauty. Creating a brand that just focuses on lighter skin tones is just ‘meh!’.
In the personal department, the second season of Putting On had viewers tagging along as Mekahel and Dave planned their wedding. Of course, there are numerous issues to sort through, including Dave wrapping up his parole duties. The two also decided to move to LA from New York and that brought its own set of inconveniences.
Another personal topic Putting On Season 2 covered was anti-aging and hair loss methods. That’s the kind of world Mekahel and Dave live in. So, it was interesting to listen to their takes on Botox and other procedures.
According to the press release I got, the series premiered on July 5, 2020, at 4 pm & 7 pm (PST) on the Revry Live channel with new episodes airing every Sunday at the same times. You can also binge the entire second season on Revry Premium.
All in all, Putting On Season 2 served as an enjoyable look into Mekahel’s life. He’s the type of person who knows what he wants and how to get it. He’s clearly passionate about everything he does and is open to changing his opinions and becoming better. That’s the kind of people I like.
You can follow On Mekahel on Instagram.
I hope to see him again in season three!
