Boruto: Naruto Next Generations 1×160 Review – ‘To the Land of Silence’

‘To the Land Silence’ helped Boruto and Salad understand that the world’s very different from the bubble they grew up in. Also, I hope Deepa makes an appearance soon.

Fans always knew that The Land of Silence wasn’t a good area to be in. It’s filled with greed and danger. It’s practically a hub for criminals. That’s why seeing Boruto and Salad getting to experience such a location was interesting. Even though our young heroes are ninjas, they are still privileged kids.

Boruto’s the son of Naruto (the Seventh Hokage) and Hinata (the daughter of the prestigious Hyuga Clan). Salad’s the daughter of Sasuke (from the Uchiha Clan) and Sakura (a world-renowned medical ninja). Both of them are from rich and famous families. Also, they grew up in a generally peaceful era. The fact that they were surprised by a small child stealing from a shop showed just how sheltered their worldview was.

The current mission’s been opening their eyes to the realities of numerous nations away from the Hidden Leaf Village. Not everyone has it good. Even though the Five Great Nations have agreed on being peaceful, the smaller nations still had a lot of issues to deal with. Kara’s been exploiting said issues and increasing its ranks. Kara can be described as a cult that promised power and respect to desperate people. And we have seen that, when required, Kara’s followers are willing to sacrifice themselves for the secret organization. That’s a dangerous hold to have on numerous people across the world. Kara’s everywhere. I can’t wait to see how our heroes will deal with such a threat.

Another narrative ‘To the Land of Silence’ shared dealt with Boruto’s experience as a ninja. No one can deny that Boruto, Mitsuki, and Salad aren’t formidable fighters. However, they are still young and lacked the smarts required to properly handle sketchy situations. While we haven’t spent time with Mugino in the manga, I appreciated the anime taking some time to flesh him out as a character. I nodded when Mugino told Boruto to not act unless instructed to.

However, due to his personality, Boruto did act up more than once in this episode. He separated himself from the team to force a shopkeeper to talk. He also blew his cover while helping the same kid who stole from a shop in an earlier scene. I hope the writers do something to teach Boruto a lesson. He needs to realize that acting instinctively doesn’t always work out in your favor.

While the current episode had many serious moments, the writers did sprinkle some comedy. The scene where the team visited an adult nightclub was hilarious. Of course, Boruto decided to transform into a woman to get closer to a suspect named Kirasaki. I would have preferred Konohamaru to transform into a woman (considering Boruto’s still a kid flirting with a grown man), but oh well.

With how ‘To the Land of Silence’ ended, here’s hoping Deepa decides to make an appearance. The infected butler’s working for Deepa, right?
