Robots vs Monsters “Mech Armada” Gets August Early Access on Steam!
Making robots fight giant monsters is always fun. You can create your own team of robot defenders and face a monstrous swarm when Mech Armada heads to Early Access on Steam come August 10, 2021.
According to the promotional material, Mech Armada has combined elements from multiple genres to offer players an ever-changing turn-based tactics game. The upcoming indie title has been inspired by the likes of Darkest Dungeon and Slay the Spire.
The gameplay includes deckbuilding but with robots, not cards. The action is described to be quite fast with a tile-based grid system being used. You will also need to keep an eye on resource management. This indie game also features permanent death. So, you will need to really think about combat strategies.
Players are encouraged to customize their “mech loadouts”, take advantage of the terrain, and play to their strengths to ensure victory against procedurally generated encounters that will continuously increase in overall difficulty level. The game’s story makes use of a “replicator technology” – a way to quickly bring powerful mechs to life.
Here’s the gameplay trailer!
Judging by the trailer, I liked seeing the numerous customization options. The graphics are nice. I also liked the robot and monster designs. It does seem like each type of monster is going to have unique abilities you will need to properly prepare for.
“There is an opportunity to combine the depth of tactics games with the replayability of deckbuilding roguelikes to create a new experience that players can enjoy over and over,” shared Lioncode founder, Sergio Garces.
Mech Armada will get its Steam Early Access release on August 10, 2021, for $14.99. You can Wishlist the game right now.
The Key Features include:
- Deep strategic combat: There are no perfect solutions. You will need to create your own strategy by cleverly making the most out of available resources and the situation.
- Design your own mech: There are over 70 available Mech parts at your disposal to create unique combinations. Each part has its own strengths and weaknesses.
- Turn-Based Combat: Make every move count during your turn.
- Procedurally generated: All the gameplay elements (monsters, maps, resources, and rewards) are randomly combined and balanced ensuring no two battles are the same.
- Roguelike campaign: This game has perma-death. You can always try again with an entirely new run, with new random parts and encounters.
- Auto-save: You can leave your game session at any point and return exactly where you left off.
- Environment variety: Battle in a variety of locations, including the outskirts of destroyed cities and desert wastelands.
As for Lioncode Games, the studio was founded on February 14, 2020, by Sergio Garces (who decided to go solo after almost 20 years as a game developer). Mech Armada is Lioncode’s first title with Sergio Garces being solely responsible for code and design, and working with contractors and freelancers for art and music.
