Fans of the God-Simulation game Reus finally have a new installment to look forward to. Reus 2 was announced during Steam’s TactiCon!

The announcement for Reus 2 was made by Abbey Games (the team behind Reus) and publisher Firesquid. The creative team hopes that the upcoming sequel will appeal to players of the original title (from 2013) as well as bring new people over as they experience what it is like to “control colossal giants” and shape entire planets to guide humanity toward certain destinies.

The original Reus is a decade old, and much has changed in the gaming world. We’re excited to bring Reus 2 to this new era, and show what it can bring to all those who want to create their own perfect world!” shared Maarten Wiedenhof, Manuel Kerssemakers & Adriaan Jansen (the three founders of Abbey Games).

When it comes to gameplay, the giants will have the ability to do much more than nurture planets to benefit humanity. Players will get to explore humanity’s fate in the cosmos of their creation. You will be able to create multiple planets and explore how different tribes react to the type of world that has been shaped around them.

The gameplay also includes planning and discovering synergies within ecosystems, biomes, and also among giants. According to the team, there’s a lot for players to explore as they learn about nature (flora and fauna) and different rosters of giants.

Reus 2 is about relaxation as players foster their human civilization. However, players can decide if they want to make things challenging for humans during their session. Not only that, if you don’t like something, you can always create a new era.

Take note; each playthrough will leave a lasting legacy in the stars to help inspire new paths for you to take.

As far as the trailer is concerned, I do like the cute and cozy animation style. Even the giants look cute, in their own way!

From what I could understand from the ‘Work In Progress’ promo content, each planet will have different biomes. And each biome will have its own giant. You can easily travel between biomes to see how certain resources and giants interact with each other.

You can inspect certain areas to find new resources and learn more about each biome. Also, you can assign caretakers when it comes to certain plants and wildlife.

I am a fan of such community-building games, and I’m looking forward to seeing how this indie title will develop as it nears an official release date.

Currently in development, you can go ahead and Wishlist Reus 2 right now on Steam.

As for Abbey Games, it is a Dutch independent studio that focuses on creating fun yet complex management games. With their debut God-sim game Reus being a hit in 2013, the studio followed it up with the strategy management game Renowned Explorer in 2015, with Godhood being released in 2020.

You can learn more about publisher Firesquid Games, which focuses on strategy titles, by visiting the official website.
