Gotham 3×5 Review: Anything For You
This week’s episode of Gotham decided to focus on familiar characters rather than another villain-of-the-week. ‘Anything for You’ started new chapters for a lot of relationships and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next.
The Mad Hatter is still out there and he wants to kill James Gordon (Ben McKenzie). However, I really didn’t mind seeing only a few seconds of him during ‘Anything for You’. Yes, he is a good villain but it felt good when the focus returned to familiar characters this week.
Jim seems to have moved on from Lee and I’m all for it. I never liked the two as a couple. Truth be told, him becoming closer to Valerie Vale (Jamie Chung) is at least tolerable for me. I like that Valerie knows what she wants and doesn’t hesitate to get it.
Coming to Lee, it was obvious she was expecting a reaction from Jim when she told him about her engagement. It feels to me that she hasn’t moved on properly. That is the reason I can’t understand why she’s going ahead with the wedding rather than trying to get Jim back.
The only interesting thing that Lee did during ‘Anything For You’ was punch Nygma in the jaw. She then proceeded to threaten him using her fiancé’s family name. I really want her to succumb to the dark side of the Falcone family as the story progresses.
Baby Bruce and Kitty Selina also had their relationship develop a bit. Those two shared their first kiss on the rooftop. They are Batman and Catwoman. They could never have remained just friends for long.
We also got to see grownup Ivy again. It was a fun scene where she teased Selina about her true identity. Also, it turns out that she didn’t kill that guy with a potted plant.
‘Anything For You’ focused a lot on love and finding a person to care for. This made the relationship between Nygma and Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) all the more ship-worthy. Butch hired the Red Hood Gang to vent his frustration against Penguin for pushing him into the background. Bottom line, he was jealous that Nygma had taken his position. Nygma, being the scheming mastermind that he is, played Butch and got him locked up in the end.
Now, there were two moments where I thought Nygma and Oswald were going to kiss. The first was when Penguin saved Nygma from Butch. The second scene was when Penguin made Nygma a cup of tea and they both sat down in front of the fireplace. I might have my shipping goggles on but it turns out I wasn’t the only one who thought that Gotham was definitely teasing a kiss between those two.
Heads up – it would seem #Gotham has #Korrasami‘d Penguin & Riddler! ❤️❓

There is more chemistry between Penguin and Nygma than literally all of the other romantic pairings on the show put together, srsly #Gotham

Will Gotham make Oswald and Nygma a couple? I sure hope so. Will the writers do nothing and continue to potentially queer-bait fans? I sure hope not!
All in all, ‘Anything For You’ was an enjoyable episode of Gotham. It focused on familiar characters and took a welcomed break from the Mad Hatter arc.
