From MossTech Studio and Indienova (publisher), the card-cased rogue-lite tower defense game Guardians of Holme will become available on Steam Early Access come June 16, 2023.

The upcoming release of Guardians of Holme will be accompanied by a 20% discount during the first week. The original price of the indie title is said to be $12.99 USD/EUR. There’s a demo you can download via Steam.

While I am familiar with tower defense games, I’m interested in this new offering due to the added deckbuilding aspect. The game mechanic involves an evolving strategy system as players progress and unlock new cards to face stronger enemies. The cards can also be upgraded.

There are also objects called relics that need to be used for building effective strategies. Apparently, different relics come with different features. The attack system includes totems, traps, summoning guards, and casting spells against the enemy waves.

From what I can understand, you can select from a bunch of heroes. Each hero has specific abilities, unique talents, and cards that can also be upgraded.

Another thing that I like is how the game can be paused or sped up. I don’t know about you, but being able to pause a tower defense game is an option I am happy to have access to. Let me catch a breath!

As for the story element, a legendary hero sealed away the Demon King decades ago. However, one day, the dormant demons reappeared and marched toward the Royal City, home to the protection circles.

To protect the world, players will take the role of a skilled artisan from Holme and make use of traps and more to hold the kingdom’s last line of defense.

I do like the cartoonish art style and again, as I have mentioned before, I’m looking forward to trying out the deckbuilding system in this one.

During the game’s Early Access phase, Guardians of Holme will allow players to experience two distinct play styles. You can select between the two characters named Seth and Nicole. The title also offers a progressively challenging difficulty mode as well as a daily challenge mode. The rogue-lite element ensures variety during the play sessions.

MossTech Studio welcomes player feedback and the proposed roadmap includes new characters, traps, artifacts, and game modes.
