Last July, Lion Forge named veteran comic writer Gail Simone the Chief Architect of their innovative Catalyst Prime Universe. This July, we get to see her first story arc, ‘Catalyst Prime: Seven Days’.
The Catalyst Prime Universe has come a long way in the two years since it launched. It has a simple in-story premise: a group of astronauts try to stop an asteroid hurtling towards Earth, but something goes horribly wrong and there are repercussions. I don’t want to spoil too much, but obviously part of the fallout is the rise of people with superpowers.
It’s a world designed for diversity from the ground up – characters, writers, editors, artists – that never loses its focus on good storytelling. Now Gail Simone will add her voice to the already talented group of creators with ‘Catalyst Prime: Seven Days’. The series, with art by Teen Titans‘ José Luís, will be seven issues long. Each covers the events of one day of a crisis that might well lead the end of the world. Here’s Lion Forge’s summary:
Lorena Payan was the first to realize a meteor was hurtling towards Earth two years ago. Now, she’s the first to realize the Earth is in danger once more from something equally cosmic but far more sinister. As a mystery figure dubbed, the Obsidian Men, begin appearing silently all over the globe our heroes Noble, Summit, and Accell join together to investigate, kicking off this seven-issue series.
“[T]his is everything I ever want in superhero comics,” says Gail Simone about ‘Seven Days’. “It’s huge stakes, it’s a mind-bending threat that actually makes you wonder how YOU would handle it, it’s noble heroes and terrible villains and weird allies and oh, yes, the sky is on fire. And we have seven days to say goodbye to Earth.”
The series will also be a good starting point for new readers, according to Simone. “You don’t need to know the Catalyst Prime Universe, you can jump right in. This is our big budget blockbuster, and I couldn’t be happier to be doing this, or prouder of the team I’m doing it with!”
‘Catalyst Prime: Seven Days’ will be included in Diamond’s May PREVIEWS catalog and at your friendly local comic store in July. Add it to your pull list so you don’t miss out!
