Geekiary News Briefs: New Power Rangers Trailer, Gay Teens Face Danger in Eyewitness and More!
Welcome to today’s Geekiary News Briefs! We will be covering the new Power Rangers trailer, the reunion of old Power Rangers, the gay-themed Eyewitness, the season 3 renewal of Ash vs. Evil Dead and more!
DC Comics fans are getting a new free-to-play RPG titled DC Legends. It feels a bit like Marvel Avengers Alliance. You can play as both heroes and villains. You can level-up characters and gain new abilities. Pre-registration is open right now. Players who pre-register will get a Striker version of Wonder Woman. DC Legends will launch for iOS and Android sometime in November 2016.
Forest Whitaker has joined the already impressive cast of Marvel Studios’ Black Panther. The Oscar winner will play a character named Zuri. The film is scheduled for release on 16th February 2018.
Ash vs. Evil Dead has been renewed by Starz for a third season. The premiere of season 2 saw an increase of 17% in viewership and it is good to see the network showing faith in the highly enjoyable horror-comedy series.
The official teaser trailer for the Power Rangers reboot debuted at New York Comic Con 2016. As far as I’m concerned I didn’t like the trailer. It feels as if the movie is going into Fant4stic Four and Chronicle territory which might not work out well for the famous franchise. The Power Rangers franchise is known for being campy. We have enough brooding superheroes already on film. Let’s see how the reboot performs when it hit theaters on 24th March 2017.
Here’s the trailer!
While the world waits for the upcoming Power Rangers reboot, about a dozen previous Power Rangers have banded together for The Order. The crew raised $130,000 through their IndieGoGo campaign. As far as my headcanon is concerned due to the fact that you can’t stay a Power Ranger after a certain amount of time the previous Rangers had to form a group of their own to fight evil.
Check out the trailer for The Order.
The trailer for Eyewitness, a new gay-themed TV series, has also been released. The 10-part series centers around two closeted teenagers who end up witnessing a triple-homicide. They don’t report the incident because they fear being outed. But staying quiet becomes dangerous when one of the perpetrators starts to trail them. Eyewitness is a remake of Øyevitne, a Norwegian show. Catherine Hardwicke is the director for the upcoming series. Yes, the same one who directed Twilight. You can actually see the Twilight-esque use of gray shades, the woods, and a lack of general sunshine in all of the scenes.
Check out the trailer for Eyewitness. It will premiere on the 16th of October 2016 on USA.
