First Wave of New York Comic Con Guests Announced
Just ahead of the general ticket sale, which is currently happening, ReedPop has released the first wave of guests for this year’s New York Comic Con. It’s headlined by some Marvel heavyweights, and features the hopefully triumphant return of a major publisher.
I’ve been attending NYCC since 2010, and it was fairly common for many years to have no idea who would be attending. Most guest announcements would be after tickets went on sale, with one or two revealed ahead of time to help get people excited. The past couple of years have featured massive guest drops early in the year, around the time that the sale date was announced.
So people were a little worried when there was no announcement this year. Two pre-sales have come and gone with no idea of who would be attending the event. Although that doesn’t seem to have deterred badge sales, with VIP and 4-Day already sold out and Saturday well on its way.
But, as I said, today is the general sale, and they finally posted the first guests on the slate!
Marvel is clearly the big draw here, with guests from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (Simu Liu, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), the Fox X-Men franchise (James McAvoy, Elliot Page), and the extended TV universe. Potential panels may include a Daredevil panel (with both Charlie Cox and Deborah Ann Woll attending) and possibly an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. panel (as Clark Gregg, Ming Na Wen, and Chloe Bennett are all scheduled to appear).
However, the guest list also includes Martin Sheen. Martin Sheen. Is that a first? Has he ever done conventions before?
As for voice actors, fans anticipate a panel for the 20th anniversary of Avatar: The Last Airbender, as the entire main voice cast is on the slate. Fan favorites Critical Role were already announced just after last year’s event.
Comic and literary guests include George R.R. Martin (I’m sure you won’t be allowed to ask him about The Winds of Winter), Jim Lee, Scott Snyder, Kami Garcia, Veronica Roth, and Tomi Adeyemi. Not to mention, the George Takei. (Who could also make an appearance on any ATLA panel that may or may not happen.)
And remember, this is just the first wave! More guests will be announced over the summer. We could have guest reveals all the way up until the actual event. (The cast of The Avengers was famously not announced until a week before the con in 2011.) The full guest list will be here.
The vendors list looks pretty standard for NYCC, with Marvel, Funko (and its assorted sub brands), Paramount+, Nickelodeon, Crunchyroll, and VIZ slated to attend. And though they aren’t specifically mentioned in the press release I received, I can’t help but notice that tiny little DC Comics logo between Crunchyroll and Funko on the poster. Could DC finally be returning to NYCC, after a prolonged absence? I certainly hope so! I have missed seeing their booth in the Crystal Palace.
Tickets for NYCC are currently on sale, but before you can buy them, you must have a Fan Verification profile! Fan Verification is closed at the moment but will reopen sometime after the general sale, possibly later tonight but most likely tomorrow. Find out more about ticket sales here.

See you all in October!
