Lucifer: The Complete Third Season DVD set is currently available for fans to own. Courtesy of Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, the Lucifer season 3 DVD set consists of all 26 episodes (including the two bonus episodes) as well as some fun extra content.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the DVD I reviewed in this Blog Post. The opinions I share are my own.

One of the things I liked about the third season of Lucifer is the introduction of Tom Welling (Smallville) and the little arc where Lucifer and Tom have to fake being a couple. I had my reservations about such a turn of events at first, but I think the writers were able to handle their relationship quite well. Lucifer not being straight on this show also helped move such a storyline from the ‘two-straight-guys-fake-a-gay-relationship’ trope. The two even kissed. Ha!

Here’s the synopsis for the Lucifer season 3 DVD:

Entering its third season, the story of the original fallen angel continues. As Season Two came to a close, Lucifer (Tom Ellis) took care of a little problem called Mom, aka Charlotte (Tricia Helfer). But now he’s facing an even greater challenge – finding out who kidnapped him, and why his angel wings are back. In addition, Tom Welling (Smallville) joins the cast as Marcus Pierce, an accomplished police lieutenant who is everything Lucifer is not – strategic, reserved and well-respected. But perhaps even more annoying are all the things they have in common. Both men are charming, charismatic and handsome as hell. So, when Pierce starts developing a connection with Chloe (Lauren German), Lucifer’s devilish traits are inflamed.

The third season of Lucifer was very enjoyable, and it was disappointing to know when it wasn’t picked up for another outing by FOX. But the good news is Netflix did decide to pick it up and give fans what they want. I will definitely talk about what to expect from the upcoming fourth season in this review.

As for the third season, following the trend of this series, even if there is a continuing plotline, you can jump into this show whenever you want because of its procedural nature. I think such a style works because some of the episodes (especially the two bonus entries) can be defined as standalone or filler.

Excluding the bonus episodes, Lucifer season 3 ended with episode 24 titled ‘A Devil of My World’, which showed Pierce taking control of the investigation into Charlotte’s death. Dan found himself in danger after letting Chloe and Lucifer know about Pierce being the murderer. The episode concluded with Lucifer revealing his face to Chloe. It was a cliffhanger ending and of course, fans were disappointed when FOX didn’t greenlight another season.

After a very passionate fan campaign, Netflix came to the rescue. The fourth season is expected to be released sometime in 2019. Considering how I enjoyed binge-watching the Lucifer season 3 DVD set, I think I (and other fans) will appreciate being able to binge-watch the entirety of Lucifer season 4 even if the episode order has been shortened to just 10 episodes.

As for what you can expect from Lucifer season 4, according to what showrunner Joe Henderson had to say earlier this year, Chloe needs to deal with the personal and professional ramifications of knowing the truth about Lucifer.

Actress Inbar Lavi has also been cast to play Eve. She has been described as “the original sinner” who has “grown restless in her marriage [to Adam] and longs for a less predictable time when things were exciting. Naughty. Dangerous.” She also misses Lucifer, “her hot and heavy first love… the charming rogue who tempted her so many years ago.”

Coming to the packaging of the Lucifer season 3 DVD release, the set consists of five discs. The front has the main artwork with the back featuring the synopsis and list of extra features. The packaging is standard for such a Warner Bors. Home Entertainment home release. One of the things fans will notice is the DVD release doesn’t say this is the last season anymore.

The presentation of the discs is in a standard 16×9 widescreen format with 5.1 Dolby Digital audio. So, no problems with video and sound quality. However, you can opt for the Blu-ray release (courtesy of Warner Archive Collection) if you want.

As for the extra content present in the Lucifer season 3 DVD release, you get:

  • The show’s 2017 San Diego Comic-Con Panel
  • Gag Reel
  • Deleted scenes
  • Lucifer Returns! Bringing the Hit Show to L.A. – A feature showcasing the show’s move back to Los Angeles with trivia about the sound stages. I think such a feature will be fun for fans interested in the behind-the-scenes world of their favorite shows.
  • Off Script with Tom & Tom – Consisting of three parts, actors Tom Ellis (Lucifer) and Tom Welling (Lieutenant Marcus Pierce) interview one another on their roles and life on set. It is clear Welling enjoyed being a member of this cast.

Lucifer: The Complete Third Season DVD set is available with a price tag of $39.99 SRP. You can own the entire season on Digital, too.
