Lin-Manuel Miranda Is Shooketh! ‘Westeros: An American Musical’ Debuts At Ice & Fire Con 2018!
If you are a fan of the Game of Thrones franchise, chances are you might be familiar with Ice & Fire Con. Headed by our very own Tara, the convention continues to offer great content for guests. This year, Ice & Fire Con 2018 saw the debut of Westeros: An American Musical.
Set to the music from Lin-Manuel Miranda’s incredible Hamilton: An American Musical, Ice & Fire Con 2018’s offering Westeros: An American Musical features characters from George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire and HBO’s Game of Thrones. Each song has original lyrics by Ice & Fire Con volunteers Brian E. and Dom T.
The 11-part musical begins with ‘King Robert Baratheon’ and concludes with ‘Unreliable Narration.’ The entire musical has been made available on YouTube.
Check out the first song below!
The idea for Westeros: An American Musical was born back in July 2017. The first song, “I’ll be back” (actually the fourth song in the show) was written soon after. A vast majority of the lyrics were written by volunteer Brian E. Volunteer Dom T. helped on “King Robert Baratheon” and “Red Woman.”
You can also view an Ice & Fire Con 2018 panel featuring artists who write filk/parody lyrics. Panelists Brian and Dom talk about the musical and writing process, and it’s an interesting panel if you too wish to create your own parody musicals.
Ice & Fire Con has seen a lot of success over the years. This year was one of the biggest for the convention, and it will return in 2019. There are tons of activities for guests to participate in, including book discussions, costume contest, role-playing, and more.
Ice & Fire Con 2017 had a couple of highly enjoyable musical performances. However, this is the first time the convention debuted an entire musical for guests to enjoy.
