The Walking Dead Season 6 Finale: Andrew Lincoln & Norman Reedus Talk Negan
I think it’s safe to say that most – if not all – TWD fans are seriously concerned about what’s going to happen Sunday in The Walking Dead Season 6 finale.
WARNING: This news article includes minor spoilers for all aired episodes of The Walking Dead, as well as some speculation regarding The Walking Dead Season 6 finale.
Even if you haven’t read the comic books, it’s really obvious that everything that’s transpired in the past several episodes has simply been building up to “Last Day On Earth”. Even as someone who knows what happens in the source material, I have to admit that it’s nearly impossible to escape all of the focus on Negan’s entrance, which *will* be happening in The Walking Dead Season 6 finale.
Andrew Lincoln spoke with Entertainment Weekly about Negan finally arriving on the scene, actually laughing as he said, “You know…Just get ready, man. Just get ready…I read the script and I went, ‘This is the greatest entrance ever written.'” Now, personally I think that The Walking Dead Season 6 finale has some pretty big shoes to fill. Way back in Season 1, Glenn had possibly the best first line (and scene) that this show has ever produced, and although Danai Gureira hadn’t been cast yet, Michonne’s first appearance back at the end of Season 2 was basically perfection. So too was our introduction to Abraham, Eugene, and Rosita in Season 4.
That said, Norman Reedus compounded Andrew Lincoln’s words by telling The Hollywood Reporter that The Walking Dead Season 6 finale is “…the most hardcore episode you’ve ever seen on the show. Ever. And it’s so well directed and it’s so well played out. And so terrifying. It’s so good. A lot of effort went into making that the best episode we’ve ever shot on this show.”
Of course Sunday’s penultimate episode showed Dwight shooting Daryl (or someone, but come on, it’s most likely Daryl). While some outlets seem to believe that there’s a chance Daryl is already dead, Chris Hardwick made it sound as if Daryl is still very much alive. Of course, that doesn’t mean he’ll make it to the end of “Last Day On Earth”; even the name portends that at least one character won’t be coming back. Rumors are flying as to who it could be, and although comic book readers know about Negan’s first kill, the show has always been a loose adaptation, and it wouldn’t really surprise me if they switched things up on us. (Especially as they’ve been focusing a lot on Daryl, Carol, and Morgan – among others – for the second half of this season.)
Regardless of what happens, though, Andrew Lincoln made it clear that comic book fans won’t be disappointed. “We’ve been talking about this guy for a long time,” he told EW. “It’s probably the most important casting since Rick, really. Everybody needs a hero, but I think they probably need a really good baddie even more.”
Reedus was a little more coy when THR asked him whether The Group killing so many of the Saviors was going to come back and haunt them, simply replying, “I imagine that’s going to come back and there’s going to be a price to pay for that.”
What do you think about Lincoln and Reedus’ statements regarding The Walking Dead Season 6 finale? Did you catch Chris Hardwick essentially admitting that Daryl isn’t dead? What are your theories about “Last Day On Earth”? Let us know in the comments!
