Telltale’s The Walking Dead: The Final Season Will Conclude for PC on Epic Games Store

The walking dead final season telltale games episode 2 Suffer the Children September release

Skybound Games has announced that Telltale’s The Walking Dead: The Final Season will get a proper ending, with all upcoming episodes being published for PC on the Epic Games Store.

Fans were understandably upset when the sudden closure of Telltale Games was announced. It put the fate of The Walking Dead: The Final Season up in the air. Not knowing how Clementine’s story would end was devastating for those who have stuck with the franchise for years. So, I am very happy the current season will see a proper conclusion.

The third episode, entitled ‘Broken Toys’, is set for a January 15, 2019 release on Epic’s new online game store. Take note, Epic Games Store will also host the previous episodes of the season for those who want to buy it. The game will arrive for consoles on Jan 15, 2019, as well. Those who have already bought the season pass will gain access to the upcoming episodes, too.

The team at Epic owns a major chapter in the history of the game industry,” said president of interactive Dan Murray and Skybound Games CEO Ian Howe in a prepared joint statement. “We’re excited to work together on their latest transformative event with the launch of the Epic Games Store. Epic stepped up to the plate immediately to work with us in order to bring the original team back together and ensure fans will receive the completed season of Telltale’s The Walking Dead: The Final Season.”

The Telltale Games drama was an unfortunate thing to behold. The company laid off approximately 274 employees in September without notice, without severance, and just about a week’s worth of health care. The decision occurred after two potential investors (AMC and Smilegate) happened to walk away from potential funding.

After the layoff, the company announced it was keeping on around two dozen employees to finish the port of Telltale’s Minecraft game for Netflix. However, a group of those employees was let go after a couple of weeks.

Fans were anxiously waiting for any news about The Walking Dead: The Final Season and thankfully it was shared the game’s story will continue with Skybound Entertainment (created by Robert Kirkman back in 2010) taking over development and publishing of the game. Skybound Games was created earlier in 2018 to aid with the development of its IP into video games.

Much of the original staff was brought back to conclude the four-episode season in-house at Skybound Games.
