The first trailer for Pokemon: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution has been released. The upcoming film will be the first CGI installment in the long-running franchise. While some fans aren’t happy with the designs of the human characters, I’m willing to give it a chance.

I’m excited to see what a Pokemon movie made completely in CGI looks like. Judging by the trailer, the Pocket Monsters look good. However, the human cast is a different story. Ash, Misty, and Brock resemble plastic dolls. Maybe they will appear better once we see them moving around in the film?

Here’s the trailer!

Pokemon: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution (Myūtsū no Gyakushū EVOLUTION) is going to be a retelling of Pokemon: The First Movie which was released back in 1999. The First Movie told fans about Mewtwo’s origins. It also had a very emotional scene between Ash and Pikachu. I still remember how it brought me very close to tearing up when I was a kid.

The upcoming film was announced during the end credits of Pokemon the Movie: The Power of Us.

It will release in Japan on July 12, 2019. A Western release date hasn’t been confirmed as of yet.

The Pokemon Company could have simply re-released the first anime film to familiarize the younger audience with Mewtwo. So, I appreciate them putting in the effort to make a CGI entry.

Will it do well at the box office and open doors for more CGI-based Pokemon movies? We will have to wait and see. I’m just happy to see Misty getting the spotlight again.

As for other recent Pokemon news, the second trailer for Detective Pikachu has been released.

We also got to know about the upcoming Pokemon game titled Pokemon: Sword and Pokemon: Shield. The new starters are cute in a weird way.

Are you a Pokemon fan? What do you think of Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution? Let us know.
