New Manga Titles & New Publishing Imprint Coming from VIZ Media
VIZ Media had a big weekend at Emerald City Comic Con, with three huge announcements, including the launch of their brand new publishing imprint, VIZ Originals!
VIZ Originals is the new English-language graphic novel imprint from VIZ Media. It will expand VIZ Media’s already renowned collection of popular titles by working with manga-inspired creators to develop original content. Led by Executive Editor Fawn Lau, the first titles will launch in 2020.
“VIZ Originals will be an incubator for innovative ideas and storytelling,” says Leyla Aker, Executive Vice President & Publisher. “There’s a demonstrated appetite for manga and manga-inspired content. With VIZ Originals, we have an opportunity to leverage over 30 years of experience in the industry to bring original, creator-owned content from top creative talents to fans worldwide.”
“We’re thrilled to support and contribute to the comics community through the VIZ Originals imprint,” adds Fawn Lau, Executive Editor, VIZ Originals. “There are so many extraordinary creators telling exciting stories in the style they love. We’re proud to be able to nurture this new generation of manga-inspired creators.”
VIZ Originals titles will feature “a premium cover treatment, larger trim size, and read left to right”.

VIZ also announced their latest manga acquisitions to be added to their fall and winter releases. These new acquisitions include The Drifting Classroom: Perfect Edition, An Incurable Case of Love, A Tropical Fish Yearns for Snow, and Jujutsu Kaisen. More about these titles below:

The last announcement out of Emerald City Comic Con is that VIZ has added the iconic Transformers franchise to its entertainment catalog with the release of Transformers: A Visual History. Scheduled for fall release, Transformers: A Visual History will come in two editions – the standard hardcover and a Deluxe Limited Edition, which includes five exclusive art prints and comes packaged in a collector’s box.
Transformers: A Visual History will feature a ton of content from Hasbro including behind-the-scenes production sketches, packaging artwork, animation models, video game designs, comic pages, and production artwork from all six Paramount live-action films (for the first time ever)! This most comprehensive collection of Transformers imagery ever assembled was curated by Transformers archivist Jim Sorenson.
