Indie Zombie Survival Game “Outbreak: Endless Nightmares” Releasing May 19, 2021

The indie zombie survival game series Outbreak has a new instalment for fans to enjoy on next-gen and current-gen consoles and Steam. Outbreak: Endless Nightmares will be released on May 19, 2021.

As someone who reviewed Outbreak way back in 2017, I’m glad to see how much this particular series has continued to improve over the years. Even though certain reviews haven’t been kind along the way, Dead Drop Studios had a vision in mind, and just look at the Outbreak series now. It has garnered a loyal fanbase and I’m so here for it to succeed even further.

Outbreak: Endless Nightmares will run at 4K and up to 60fps on the PS5 and Xbox Series X. It features mo-cap animations for the first time in the series. Real-time lighting and shadows (including multi-layered VFX for gore and explosions) and incredibly detailed textures make it the most polished Outbreak yet.

Just look at all the action, horror and gore in the trailer! I also like how you can select the camera angle. While I’m not against the first-person perspective, I prefer over the shoulder when given a choice.

Fans can look forward to a lot of replayability through increasingly challenging, semi-procedurally generated “anomalies” filled with items, lore, puzzles, and blood-starved beings.

Players will also get free post-launch DLC throughout the first year. Also, in celebration of the launch, a special bundle containing all six Outbreak titles on both prior gen and next-gen SKUs (Outbreak Complete Collection) will also be available on May 19, 2021 (PlayStation and Xbox only).

As for the premise, your character will be trapped within what remains of the Arzt Memorial Hospital. This becomes a central Hub, serving as a safe zone for you to organize your inventory, level-up, and more.

You can select from a range of six characters, each bringing unique abilities, upgrade paths, and more. Your mission will be to explore, scavenge for supplies, uncover clues, and fight your way through the anomalies.

The gameplay will grow difficult each time you enter an anomaly. So, make sure you’re ready with the right weapons and gear. Along with fighting monsters and the undead, you’ll need to find journals that contain answers about the original outbreak as well as information about where to find refuge.

To make things interesting, when your character dies, you’ll find yourself back in the Hub – a nexus between Life and Death. Upon resurrection, most of your inventory will be intact (along with experience and money).

The Key Features include:

• A mix of classic survival action with roguelike gameplay.
• Getting to explore a massive, semi-procedurally generated world that expands as the game progresses! Talk to NPCs, visit shops, etc.
• Three camera angles – fixed camera, over the shoulder, and first-person. You decide how you want to play.
• The ability to take pictures with the tactical camera or use photo mode to scan for anything dangerous nearby.
• Revisiting anomaly dungeons multiple times to find different traps, enemies, puzzles, challenges, and loot.
• Two-player split-screen co-op.
• Dismantling, repairing, and upgrading weapons. You can build ammo through gunpowder. Combine healing items to create new formulas and more.
• You can select from 5 gameplay modes – Standard, Ironman, Randomizer, Lost Hope, and Easy Mode.
• Searching through notes and logs to read more from Lydia’s journal and piecing together the past and future of the outbreak.
• Late game content: Getting to face a randomly-generated dungeon of extreme danger near the end of the game and trying multiple New Game Plus modes after completing the story.

Outbreak: Endless Nightmares will be released on multiple platforms on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, for $19.99.

Outbreak Complete Collection will also be available come May 19, 2021 (PlayStation and Xbox only) for $79.99.

The Microsoft Store (Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One) has pre-orders currently available, as does the Nintendo Game Store (Switch).
