American Gods Comic to be Published in 2017

American Gods Comic

There’s an American Gods comic scheduled to be released on March 15, 2017 and I couldn’t be more excited.

Not only is Neil Gaiman’s popular 2001 novel about to become a TV show, but it’s about to get the comic book treatment as well.

“There’s a tremendous amount of excitement, in my house and in the world, about the American Gods TV series coming up on Starz,” Gaiman said in a press release.  “What we’ve managed to keep a secret until now is that there is something just as exciting out there: American Gods, the comic. I’ve been watching P. Craig Russell breaking down the book into comic form, watching Scott Hampton painting the pages, watching Glenn Fabry create the covers, and grinning to myself with delight, because the American Gods comic is going to be an astonishing, faithful, and beautiful adaptation.”

The American Gods comic will be released by Dark Horse comics and adapted by P. Craig Russell (The Sandman: The Dream Hunters).  The first issue will be illustrated by Scott Hampton (Hellboy, Batman) with guest interior art by Walt Simonson (Thor), Mark Buckingham (Fables), and Colleen Doran (The Sandman).  The cover art will be done by Glenn Fabry (Preacher) and Adam Brown (Predator vs. Judge Dredd vs. Aliens) with variant covers for the first issue by David Mack (Kabuki, Fight Club 2) and Dave McKean (Black Dog, Cages).  The story will be split into three parts: Shadows, My Ainsel, and The Moment of the Storm.  There will be 27 single issues within those three arcs, which will be available in three hard cover graphic novels.

The Starz series is also scheduled to be released in 2017, but the precise date has not been announced. Regardless of the exact date, 2017 is shaping up to be an epic year for American Gods fans.  Can we get a Good Omens year next, please?  Come on, guys.  Aziraphale and Crowley are dying to come to life like this.
