The open-world cozy adventure indie game Petit Island is available on Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox. The title is from indie dev studio Xelo Games and Publisher SOEDESCO.

According to the promo material, Petit Island lets you play as a young cat named Lily. The narrative involves her visiting the island and reliving her Grandpaw’s (get it? Ha!) fading memories. Apparantly, Grandpaw got up to a lot during his younger years.

Through her adventures, Lily will get to uncover secrets from his journal. There are a lot of places for players to explore as they find ancient treasures and get to learn more about the other inhabitants. The island features villages, cities, beaches, mountains, and many more locations.

The gameplay mechanic makes use of photography. Lily will have to capture “unforgettable moments” by taking pics at nostalgic spots across the island. Other picture-focused missions include snapping shots of unique wildlife and the locals. The camera needs to be used to “piece together” Grandpaw’s past and aid with creating new memories.

The customization options let you express through Lily the way you want. And, if you go by how such games usually are, you should be able to unlock new accessories as you progress and complete certain tasks.

Here’s the colorful trailer!

I do like the art style depicted in the trailer. It strikes the right balance between detail without overwhelming the eyes. There seems to be a LOT to do across the island such as nature surveys, collection missions, fishing, etc. I wasn’t expecting Lily to be able to ride certain animals; the lama is so cute!

The vibe of the game seems to be allowing players to do things at their own pace. While they can accept certain missions and tasks, they can also take the time to simply explore the island or relax. Judging from what I have seen online, certain players and content creators have praised the “cozy” aspect of Petit Island.

The game is available on the Nintendo Switch (currently showing up at $29.99 CAD), Steam ($25.99 CAD), PlayStation Store ($29.99), and the Xbox Store ($29.99).

You can also go ahead and join the Discord channel. Follow the game on Twitter.

As for Xelo Games, the indie studio is based in Bali and was established back in 2020 by a small team of only three developers. The team has contributed to titles such as Monster Hunter, Tekken, Formula One, Dirt Rally, and Grid. The studio focuses on “creating meaningful projects” to “inspire and make a positive impact on the world through video games.”
