Boruto: Naruto Next Generations 1×21 Review: Sasuke and Sarada

Sasuke and Sarada Boruto Anime review

This week’s episode of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, titled ‘Sasuke and Sarada,’ showed a daughter and father bonding moment that could’ve been a lot better.

I get that Sasuke is someone who likes to keep his emotions to himself unless it’s anger or sadness. However, ‘Sasuke and Sarada’ showed that he needs to do a lot better as a father. I get that he can’t stay in the village, but considering what he went through with his family in the past, he should at least try and work things out with Salad.

There needed to be a conflict in the current Uchiha family for the Naruto Gaiden arc to even exist, so I guess we just have to deal with Sasuke being the kind of father he is. I liked how the episode revealed that Sakura wasn’t at fault. She blamed herself for not being a better mother but Sasuke stated that it was his fault instead.

With the events that are occurring in the current Boruto manga series, set after the current anime arc, it does seem like Sasuke has become more involved in his daughter’s life, which is a good thing.

One of the best parts about the Boruto anime is seeing the kids realize how awesome their parents are. They might have heard about their parents playing important roles during the war, but seeing them in action is far more effective than listening to a story.

Salad’s reactions upon seeing Naruto and Sasuke fight Shin were hilarious. She also couldn’t believe her eyes when Sakura arrived to lend a hand as well. It was fun watching Salad realize that Team 7 is a force to be reckoned with.

The question Salad has regarding her biological mother’s true identity is still present even though it feels like a drag. One thing that I didn’t appreciate in ‘Sasuke and Sarada’ was how the animators decided not to show an important scene from the manga series.

There were a couple of panels that showed Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura meeting with the other Kages and deciding how to handle the kind of threat that even worried Kaguya. However, the episode redid the entire scene with only Naruto and Sasuke talking about how Sasuke has to go on a secret mission.

Next week’s episode is going to continue the current arc and Salad will come closer to knowing the identity of her biological mother.
