Star Wars Celebration 2017 Announcements: A Lot of Big News!
I was very excited earlier today when Star Wars Celebration released their panel and event schedule…but as it turned out, that’s not all they had up their sleeve: Mark Hamill has finally been announced as a guest!
Of course, Mark Hamill isn’t the only exciting guest attending Star Wars Celebration 2017 – Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. (both of whom voice characters on Rebels) were announced recently, too. As they aren’t actors you would normally see at any convention, we call these “unicorn appearances”.
At the time of this article’s publication, there were still autographs and photo ops available for all of the above guests (yes, including Luke Skywalker himself). That said, if you’re interested in meeting any of them, I suggest purchasing your autograph and/or photo op tickets sooner rather than later; after all, Felicity Jones’ are already sold out, so I imagine that even at $200 for a photo op and $250 for an autograph, Mark Hamill’s will, too.
Speaking of Felicity Jones (Jyn Erso), she and many other awesome guests round out the Star Wars Celebration list – Riz Ahmed (Bodhi Rook), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Garrick Hagon (Biggs Darklighter), Denis Lawson (Wedge Antilles), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), Ian McDiarmid (Emperor Palpatine), Alan Tudyk (K-2SO), Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian), and more!
Of course there will also be a first look at Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, and as of today it’s scheduled for 11 AM Friday morning. Personally I’m just as interested in some of the fan panels, which include everything from talking about Star Wars fashion to Star Wars themed food and recipes to LGBTQ+ representation in Star Wars. I only wish we knew more about what vendors and artists were attending, because as of right now there are only a few ‘featured exhibitors’ listed on the official website.
Another thing that hasn’t been mentioned much is official nightlife outside of the Star Wars Galactic Celebration, a separately ticketed (and sold out) event being held at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Here’s hoping that today’s announcements weren’t the end of the Star Wars Celebration 2017 news.
