With the Boomerang TV series reboot on BET coming closer to its planned 2019 air date, it is fun keeping an eye on the cast members we will get to see. The Halle Berry and Lena Waithe executive produced series has added RJ Walker and Paula Newsome in recurring roles.

The Boomerang TV series will be a continuation (as well as a sort of a reboot) of the 1992 film of the same name, which starred Halle Berry, Eddie Murphy, Robin Givens, and many more. The series is co-produced by BET Networks and Paramount Television.

The main cast includes Tequan Richmond as Jacqueline Boyer’s son Bryson, while Tetona Jackson has been cast as Marcus and Angela’s daughter Simone. Both Bryson and Simone will be trying their best to step out of their parents’ shadows. The rest of the cast has Leland Martin as queer character Ari and Lala Milan as Tia.

According to Deadline, RJ Walker will play David Wright. He is “a Wall Street guy turned preacher with a strong moral compass.” He is also “fastidious” about how he looks and feels “well beyond” being 26 years old. Wright “was married to Crystal.”

Paula Newsome will recur on the show as Victoria Johnson. Her character has been described as “your least favorite aunt”; she is also the Creative Director of The Graham Agency, and Bryson and Simone’s boss.

Victoria Johnson is “set in her ways, mainly because they’ve worked so well for her in the past, she’s tough on the younger associates, in spite of their family connections to the agency.”

Some of you might have seen Walker on FX’s Atlanta as well as remember him from Netflix’s Wine Country.

I recently saw Paula Newsome as Detective Janice Moss opposite Henry Winkler and Bill Hader in HBO’s very enjoyable dark comedy Barry. She is one of those talented actresses who has been in everything!

The Boomerang TV series has Ben Cory Jones as the showrunner. He co-wrote the pilot with Waithe.

(Update November 1, 2018) – Brittany Inge, Joey BadA$$, and Kimberly Hall have also been cast in recurring roles.
